My doc wants me to get bloodwork done at ____

last month
last modified: last month

My fairly new PCP (for some reason) wants me to get lab (blood) work done at a certain for profit (well-known) chain, and not the local hospital.

The reason she proffered seemed dodgy. I like going to the local hospital lab. They are easy, convenient. I can pbone them. They are responsive.

The well-know McBloodlab place that my PCP wants me to go for lab work annoys me.

They do not answer phone. There are more local outlets than a fast food company, but no phone calls.

I have to make an appointment. My local hospital* lab requires no appointmet. I can go a a small satellite lab at the hospital and quickly get my labwook done. * It’s affiliated with a teaching hospital. Results are quickly reported to my doctor’s office.

The McLab wants me to go through a cumbersome online scheduling. I have to page through various areas. They want my email and or cell phone number. I do not want to give my cell phone # (for texts) out as I am already coping with a lots of nonsense and spam. The local hospital does not ask for this. My land line is all they might ask for.

I am so-so about the newish PCP, but I’ve told her that I do NOT want to use the big chain lab.

If she insists on it, without good logical reason, I will quit her and look for another doctor. If she continues to insist, I see a Red Flag and will communicate my concerns to others up her chain.

Has anyone else encountered this sort of thing? I think the local; hospital labs gets results to the PCP earlier.

Any thought? I appreciate your feedback. Thanks.
