A tale of cookies - not the computer kind
So I really like these cookies from a bakery company in Michigan. They are packaged a dozen to a pack, nice big cookies, like homemade. Great texture and flavor. I buy the chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin. First found them being sold at Drug Mart for $6.99 a pack, then at an Amish country market I frequent, and then they began showing up at a market in the nearby small city.
But, for the last six months or so I've noticed a change in quality. Most every package had half of the cookies looking like this:
To me, looks like they were packaged stacked warm, thus the concave shape of the bottoms. Also of course like everything else, the cookie has "shrunk", looks thinner.
So I get to thinking. I'm paying $5.75 to $6.99 for these cookies and they are not what they used to be. I should have stopped buying them, but then I also think -as a consumer, I have a right to call this bakery company and complain. lol So I do.
The person I spoke to was very interested in what I had to say and asked for photos and where I purchased the cookies, which I sent (the above, plus a couple others). When she received the emailed photos, she replied that she was grateful for the photos, she would show them to management and send me replacement packs. As for the condition of the cookies, she informed me that they don't actually bake the cookies at their bakery, they have "distributors". Meaning? Contracted bakers receive the raw cookies and they bake them instead? I don't know, I didn't ask.
This all happened Thursday of this week. Just awhile ago, while watching the ballgame, here comes a UPS truck. He brings me a big box! It's heavy. It's from the company in MIchigan. Inside I find four packs of cookies - two oatmeal raisin and two chocolate chip. I'm surprised and quite happy. However.........opened a pack of the oatmeal raisin - first cookie off the top looks the very same as the one in the photo I sent. So did the next two in the stack. LOL!
Well, thought about getting the camera again, but then decided to let it go. I stuck the other three packs in the freezer (they came in individual plastic bags as well ). Sometimes I just get fed up with how much money we are spending on food and other goods and receiving sub-par.

As for the occasional use ... it depends how mad I am a it! One doesn't want to boot hard enough to break one's toe, though ... so great care is indicated, despite the anger, when wearing slippers. As for the "How do you do?" when greeting someone: in earlier times major hunger was often somewhat widespread, and there was more disease, with much less effective treatment available, than in modern times, so inquiring after someon'e health and well-being was more important than recently. Comments (41)When I was a kid, my aunt made a batch of cookies for the parish priest. Later, he told her how much he loved those "delicious lemon cookies. " "Lemon? " my aunt thought. There wasn't any lemon in the recipe. She went home and dug out the card to double check. No lemon. Then she went through all the ingredients she had used, trying to figure out where the flavor had come from. The wrong extract? Nope, that wasn't it. Had something gone sour? No. Finally, the only thing left was the oil, which this particular recipe used instead of butter or shortening. She went under the cupboard to get the bottle. Apparently, she had never felt comfortable handling big jugs of oil, which were glass back then, so she usually transferred some to a plastic squeeze bottle, typically an empty dishwashing detergent container. Comments (15)I have my FF browser set so that when a site wants to set a cookie it asks me "every time". I can tell it deny, allow, or allow for session. I use the allow for session option on almost everything. When you close the browser, they all go away. Its under Tools, Options, Privacy. I'm not sure if you can do the same with IE. Comments (54)My mother (with a family of 7, plus friends, grandparents, aunt...) used to bake scads of cookies for Christmas. We were spoiled for choice! Almond crescents, pecan balls, mini pecan tarts, date pinwheels, hermits, jam thumbprints, cut out sugar (with a touch of nutmeg), a cream cheese pastry dough filled with various fruits or nuts (can't remember the name). Sometimes she would make fudge. I am sure that I've forgotten a couple. Over the years I've made all of these, usually just 2 or 3 in small quantity (almost always including hermits) but as the DD grew up and I became prone to gaining too much weight in November and December, I am down to making just one small batch.
