Sadly, the daffodils from Trader Joe's this year were a bust. I took the first batch back because they never bloomed, just withered. The replacements did the same. I look forward to TJ's daffodils every year, but this year, I had to switch to tulips.

I enjoy winter, but spring is nice, too.

not to be debbie downer but what makes me happy are toilets that flush. after having my septic tank pumped 3 weeks ago, my toilets are backing up again. plumber is hoping it's just a clogged line so i'm donning my polly pioneer hat and peeing in a bucket for now. if snaking the lines doesn't work, the next step will be digging up my drain field which encompasses pretty much my entire front yard.

BUT, on a happy note and something that makes me euphorically happy is that pippin has lost 18 pounds since november!! she no longer looks like a beached whale when she's laying on her side. about 5 more pounds to go and she'll be perfect. in lieu of birthday cake tomorrow, she'll get a very small cheeseburger. she will be SIX!

Sitting here with Myben in my arms. Was thinking about my husband yesterday. He's been gone 3 years and I try to remember the good times that made me smile.

I have noticed that the vegetation is beginning to "green up". If you don't know whatI mean: I began noticing a decade ago, if not two decades ago, each year, in a fence line, the lower shrubs find their leaves, then the upper shrubs, then the trees. I thought I was a little crazy, that it would be this early. But today I noticed the birds singing their spring songs. Somehow, I noticed it was different than the other kind of singing, the one they do in the morning all spring long. So I think spring is here. Every year, in Nashville, you will see the snow on the daffodils (little rays of sun on the ground!), but it is the last snow. It can just be a flurry. But we're near the end!!! I'm going to garden all day tomorrow, working neither job. I cannot wait to be super happy with super dirty clothes and body tomorrow. A mud bath, if you will. Yay!

Today is the last day of early Primary voting in my city. I just drove to the library downtown and did my civic duty. I was happy to see a big crowd at this early stage.

Fun2BHere, hope you enjoy your tulips soon. I like tulips too but the pesky squirrels always find ways to dig them up so I often end up with nothing. One year I was given a basket of forced tulips - they turned out beautifully on my windowsill then up on a pedestal,

Being with my husband, our daughter & her fiancé, our son, and our fur kids. Being in our cozy home. It doesn’t take much to make me happy these days.

I smiled the other day when I saw a sticker on a vehicle that read, “When Mama ain’t happy, no one is happy.” It made me think about how deeply a mother’s spirit shapes the atmosphere around her. I always felt happiest when I could make my own mother smile. Happiness, after all, has a beautiful way of spreading from heart to heart.

Spring! It always puts a spring in my step, and with tomorrow being March 1st and temps near 70F it's all the better. Time to plant the Peas!

I am a happy person. Life itself makes me happy. It would be a shorter list to make of what makes me upset. But to summarize, i guess the usual: My SO, my pets, my garden and greenhouse, my few dear friends, good food and whatever makes me laugh.

Today was the first day in weeks I've been to my beloved Appalachian Trail, where I usually go every day. The single temperatures, along with the snow which is still in my front yard, prohibited me so I'd walk the macadam road by a beautiful creek. So it was good to be back, but it's ungodly muddy, so my usually brisk hike was slower but I didn't want to risk falling as I did a year ago, slipping on icy mud.

Olychick, your connection to your grandson put me in mind of Glenda and her grandson. That made me smile.

I am generally a very happy person too so it doesn't take much but my morning routine of taking the dog out to potty, making coffee and then settling in for the 31 games of Wordle (Wordle, Double Dordle, Quordle and Octordle) with my friend since 7th grade. She lives on the west coast - 3 hour time difference!) We play and message and talk about our day every day. It's grounding and comforting to play with a friend every day.

Nature and animals make me happy and quite content.

Yes I recall. A simple gesture like that can make someone happy, and in turn, make you happy too. Even a small gesture can carry great meaning and create a deep connection.

Many things besides my grandson make me happy, but he's right at the top. I love Spring so much - watching the trees, shrubs and flowers emerge for another season; the birds returning to build their nests, the deer soon to be parading their fawns around and the baby foxes sitting roadside where their mamas left them while they hunt in the brush. Today I am leaving to go visit very close friends who live by Mt Hood (about a 2.5 hour drive from here) and I'm anticipating a gorgeous drive -driving always makes me happy, as does spending time with old friends.

Off the top of my head...

Beautiful skyscapes - and we have plenty here. Being with family and friends. Making children happy. Crossing everything off my to-do list. Nice cool weather.

My relationships are central to my happiness. My young adult kids are productive and thriving, and we are very close. My partner is a wonderful person who's had a difficult life, but who has a great sense of humor and perspective. and is inspiring to be around. I also have strong relationships with my extended family and friends.

But it's the little things, too, as many have noted here. A good cup of coffee. A quiet Sunday morning. A favorite song. An evening walk when the sun is setting. All of the little moments that make up life.
