Aside from coming straight from the salon, does hair generally even get much scent anymore? Well mine does because I use Irish Spring 5-in-1 from head to toe, but in general I think shampoo and soaps tend to be scented less than they used to be. Or is this just my post-Covid nose speaking? I think a lot of people are turning away from residual scents when it comes to body products and household products, too. Scent = chemicals, at least psychologically.

I will say I’m pleasantly transported back in time a bit when I’m showering somewhwre and come across a bottle of Garnier Fructis (sp?) or Herbal Essence or something!

I agree with foas about trend to less or fewer scented shampoos & body products. Both my shampoo & conditioner are very lightly scented & the leave in conditioner I use before drying my hair is also not highly scented. But, I can smell the scent of products my hair dresser uses for a couple of days after she does my hair. It’s not heavy or unpleasant at all but since my hair is close to my nose I catch whiffs of it. As far as scents in general, there are reminder signs posted in our gym to please don’t use any perfums or scents. Working out & deep breathing next to a person doused in Old Spice or some floral scent is overwhelming. Although I like that Gain commercial woman with the great smile & dimples, every time I see it I wonder who are those people that want to go around smelling like laundry detergent? And there’s that Downy dryer stuff too - same deal. The best scent is just a fresh & clean no scent!

I don't know about these days, but I still fondly remember the original fragrance of Herbal Essence shampoo.

Me, too. I loved Herbal Essence. I had long hair then and a boyfriend that loved the smell of my hair. Intoxicating. LOL

Don't they still make the Herbal Essence shampoo and stuff? I didn't know it was gone. Personally, I like no scent or very little scent. My hair stuff is scented a little, I am using salon quality products for my hair but then I use a Pantene leave in conditioner which smell like coconut(almost too much). I just use what works for my hair and for my skin. If I'm not allergic to it and it doesn't fry my hair, it is a win win...LOL!

They still make the Herbal Essences shampoos. I have a bottle of the Chamomile in rotation, I like the scent, it's on the softer side and it doesn't aggravate me like so many scents do. It doesn't really linger after rinsing. Some of the H.E. scents are much too strong and can be cloying.

porkchop, I didn't know there were different HE scents. Good to know. The original, from back in the 70s, was very strong and I think it actually wasn't great for the condition of your hair but it sure did smell good.

I do like a lightly scented shampoo and it makes me think of my mom. She came to live with me for two years when she was 89 and my dad had passed away. In my house, the little bathroom is between the two bedrooms. When I would shower and get ready to go to work, she told me that she loved the smell of the shampoo I was using. I don't remember now what it was but I was happy it gave her pleasure.

I remember Prell shampoo in green color that we had in the 70’s. The scent was nice and not overwhelming. I have Suave ocean breeze and it smells nice to me.

I still use HE in the Body Envy and White Grapefruit/ Corsican Mint scents. I can smell them slightly (really pleasant) only while my hair is drying. My hair and skin are generally oily and so many of the salon quality products cause me to experience dermatitis, I have a really limited number of brands that I can use. I also love Suave Wild cherry Blossom and Suave Aloe and Waterlily. I wish that I could find a Vanilla scented shampoo/ Conditioner that doesn't break me out.
