Do you have a good smelling dog shampoo?

I've been using baby shampoo on dog #1, because I thought it would be good in case it gets in her eyes and it smells so good. For dog #2, I've been using an allergy shampoo, but I don't think it's working. They both still smell like wet dog after I give them a bath. Is there a dog shampoo that will make them smell good afterwards?

DH bought some deodorizing shampoo for our dog that smells like a public restroom. I finally had enough and went to the pet store and opened every bottle and sniffed. I decided on Burt's Bees Soothing Skin shampoo which smelled clean but not perfumey.

We washed the dog yesterday. She still smelled doggy when she was wet but when she dried she was soft and smelled clean. Hopefully it will last.

Crazy dog wild cherry shampoo. Our giants have gorgeous shiny coats. Plus it smells good and deodorizes for 6 weeks. We usually bath our guys every 6 or 8 weeks.

I'm having the same problem, and would be eager to hear any suggestions. In my case, the dogs are all on leash; their owners just choose to allow them to do their business in my side garden. I was out this morning removing the winter mulch and it was disgusting. To compound the problem, the garden abutts the back end of another property and because the neighbor lives quite far away, it has been used as the neighborhood toilet for years. People even empty their pooper-scoopers there. I'm fond of dogs, but in the summertime when I'm working in the garden, the fragrance of my garden has to compete with, well, less desirable odors, not to mention the adverse health impacts. Some possible solutions I've considered- 1. One of those one foot high, wrought iron fences with decorative spikes. In my community you need a permit for a fence, and it has to be set back a yard into the property, so it could still be a problem. Calling the police and asking them to start handing out tickets for a few weeks. We have an ordinance that dictates that you must clean up after your dog. 3. Using one of those chemical deterents. Only problem is that it won't stop the owners from emptying their scoopers there. Any other suggestions?? I don't want to blow up me or my kids with the land mines : )

I know this isn't for dogs, but I use Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo on my Miniature Australian Shepherds (they have heavy coats with thick undercoats). It has the advantage of not causing any 'tearing' if it accidently gets in their eyes, it rinses out easily, and leaves them smelling clean. And during the summer, my two need frequent bathes as well! Besides that, it's gentle on their skin, and it's relatively cheap. MacThayer

We renovated a foreclosure which had previously housed a pet pig. Yes, PIG. It stank, and yet the carpets had been replaced. We took out (ourselves, eeew) all the carpet, and loa and behold, they had not cleaned the subfloor, and the radiator covers were disgusting.. On a hot dry week, we scrubbed the subfloor of the affected rooms, once with Pine Sol and then with bleach and water. Turned on fans, left the windows open, and came back after a well deserved 3 days off. No real smell, but we sealed each subfloor before re-flooring. There was absolutely no scent other than the smell of the flooring when we were done. Freaking hard work, but we doubled our investment.

I just got down showering both my cats. They hate it, but I think running water does tohe best job getting their coats clean and smelling good again. Dogs don't lick themselves like cats do, so you could probably get away easier with dry shampoo in that situation.

I bought this one over the summer because our dog gets some kind of reaction to being on freshly mowed grass. I'm not a huge Martha fan but have to say I will buy this again - a soft, pleasant scent (dislike strong scents immensely) and it did seem to help with his itching. I try to bathe him every 4 - 6 weeks or so. There are other formulations also.

I use fragrance free oatmeal dog shampoo because anything else seems to make my dogs itch like crazy. I like Foster & Smith's. I've used Aveeno Fragrance Free body wash (my soap) in a pinch. And if you want an after or between shampoo coat conditioner or skin soother, this stuff is awesome: Emu Oil. Not greasy and makes their coat soft and shiny.

I use Dr Bonner's liquid soap. You can get it at trader joes, target, or larger grocery stores. It comes in several varieties. It is very mild and really cuts grease and dirt.

I found it at both my vet's office and locally owned pet store. Although I know it can be ordered as well. It's about 7 for 12 oz at my local pet store. Online I think it's cheaper but I like supporting the local establishment. The cherry scent fades and becomes a great deodorizing shampoo afte the first 2 days. However if cherry ist your thing they have a nice rainforest scent as well as a piÃÂ±a colada.

Beautiful dog!!

I also use an oatmeal shampoo because my pup gets dry skin at times. It has a mild fragrance. She is groomed every 4 weeks and we take her shampoo with her. I don't let the groomer use fragrance products on her. I also have a conditioner in the same line. I'm not home and would have to look to remember the brand.
