Looking for info about Penny Lane and Leander
Comments (9)Leander is one of my favorites. Mine is on multiflora rootstock and is now 13 years old in my garden. I like it well enough to have ordered three more this year for fall planting. It is (for me, in heavy clay soils) an upright, self supporting charmer that many many visitors have added to their must have lists. Not only do I love the form and health of the plant, I love the relative lack of thorns. Maybe one cane every year or three will have a few thorns. The overall plant is a joy to work under. In your latitude, the blooms will be prettier than they are here. The color they carry is a function of sunlight intensity and the hotter and more intense the sun, the more light pink they become. Here in late fall, there is a complexity of pale peach to pink-beige-to maybe there's a bit of yellow peach going on. More peach than Safrano at this time of the year. But with colors that look very good with vibrant tea rose pinks....See MoreStooping to pick up a pop can tab, of lower value than a penny
Comments (44)The small frame of the tab, composed of a roll of aluminum, has to stay rigid as it pushes in the scored panel on the lid. It is also the little tab between the rolled tab and the lid that needs to stay intact until the scored panel is pushed in, and which breaks when the tab is removed. Sometimes it takes a dozen wiggles, sometime only a couple will suffice. As I mentioned in my post of Sept. 1, I collected 2,000 tabs in a 2-litre ice cream package, filling it about 3/4 full and I didn't weigh it, but it was not much over 2 lbs., 3 lbs. at the outside. It takes about 32 cans to make a pound - with or without the tabs. If you have a scrap metal dealer nearby, they will buy your scrap cans, and some prefer them uncrushed, but others don't care. Around here, they paid about 70 cents per lb., a few months ago. They say that the tabs and the cans all go into the same bucket. Crushed cans occupy about 1/3 - 1/4 the volume of intact cans. Good wishes for the weekend. ole joyful...See More? about starting a penny bowling ball....
Comments (14)I have done many bowling balls using coins. There are several things that work for cleaning them up. The first thing I tried was....get this...the soft drink-COKE! (Needless to say...what it does to your insides!~) I just soaked them in a little bowl and it took off the black, but it took too long. Then I went to the grocery store and bought a brass cleaner. Worked MUCH better. Took off all the black and made them incredibly shiny. I grouted the ball with copper colored grout and sealed it with a masonary sealant so they stay shiny. Got so many comments on it as it is shiny and beautiful and shows up in the garden. One lady came to my house because she could see it from a distance and had to come see what it was! Comments (16)I'm beginning again after having lost my previous post, who knows what I did. Thank you all so much for your kind comments. It always shores up my confidence when you all like what I've done, even when I'm sure in my own mind that it all looks good. d_gw, in one of the "before" pictures you're seeing the summer bedspread which I bought not too long ago, but after some time it got colder and I had to break out the winter quilt. I was too lazy to use the winter shams, however. I painted the yellow silk pillow with blue acrylic and rust colors to make it look less yellow. I'm no artist, but at least it blends in a little more. I'm showing a close-up of the dachshunds, which for some reason have feet that look like flippers. Hubby has no explanation; he's usually much better than that. I'm adding a picture of a beloved dog and cat who have passed on and a duck that's before my time, as were the dachshunds. Notice the "flippers", cannot explain those. Those are not doggie feet! Nellie, my beloved dog who I hope is waiting for me. Casey, my sweet and gentle cat, now long gone. A feathered friend. In all honesty, my husband's best works are oil paintings....See More
