simple salad with crab sticks
Comments (4)I make Crab Louis with a bed of Romaine lettuce that gets an avocado half put in the middle with the crab meat lumped on top of the avocado. I surround that with tomato wedges, olives, sliced mushrooms, sliced hard boiled egg, and sprinkled with minced green onion. For a dressing, I use a Louis dressing made with mayo, chili sauce (usually my own homemade), lime juice, and horseradish, or I sometimes use a Roquefort salad dressing. Comments (3)My favorite salad, created by local restauranteer, Franklin's Homewood Gourmet! Baby blue salad 1 pound baby lettuce mix 6 ounces blue cheese, crumbled 2 cups balsamic vinaigrette (recipe below) 4 oranges, peel removed, cut to the flesh and sliced (2 slices per salad) 2 pints strawberries, hulled and quartered (2 tablespoons per salad) 6 ounces "Sweet and Spicy" pecans (recipe below) Toss baby lettuce mix with balsamic vinaigrette and blue cheese, using enough dressing to coat - but not drown - lettuce. Place in center of plate. Scatter oranges and strawberries over the salad. Top with sweet and spicy pecans. Serves 12. Balsamic Vinaigrette (According to the original recipe, this is for 12 salads. I had 3/4 of a jar left after serving a group according to the recipe, so you may want to reduce the amount if you do not want extra vinaigrette on hand.) 1 cup balsamic vinegar 1/3 cup dijon mustard 1/3 cup honey 2 tablespoons roasted garlic, chopped 2 teaspoons shallots, chopped 2 cups extra virgin olive oil Salt and pepper Whisk vinegar, honey, Dijon mustard, garlic and shallots together until combined. Slowly add oil while continuing to whisk dressing. Add salt and pepper to taste. "Sweet and Spicy" Pecans 4 tablespoons white sugar 2 tablespoons chili powder 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper 2 cups water 1/2 cup white sugar, mixed with water to make a syrup 6 ounces pecans, whole Mix sugar and spices together and set aside. Briefly soak the pecans in the sugar mixture, drain lightly and toss nuts with spice/sugar mix to coat. Place in a single layer on a roasting pan and roast for 10 minutes at 350 degrees until golden brown....See Moregood salad dressing recipe for wedge
Comments (10)The House of Prime Rib in S.F. has a wonderful salad and I found a copycat recipe for it. The dressing would be wonderful on a wedge salad, though I'd probably leave out the water to make it a bit thicker. I've included the salad recipe for anyone who might like it, because it's a terrific salad. Original Spinning Bowl Salad Copycat recipe from House of Prime Rib, S.F. 8 ounces romaine lettuce -- washed, dried and torn into 1 1/2" pieces 2 ounces iceberg lettuce -- washed, dried and torn into 1 1/2" pieces 2 ounces spinach -- Baby spinach; washed, dried and torn into 1 1/2" pieces 4 ounces canned beets -- drained & julienned 4 ounces chopped hard-cooked eggs 4 ounces croutons -- sourdough best 4 ounces Classic Vintage Salad Dressing 8 each tomatoes -- Teardrop or grape variety Place salad greens in a large salad bowl. Arrange beets over greens; sprinkle with chopped eggs and top with croutons. Prepare ice bowl, if desired: Fill a very large shallow bowl with crushed ice, making a depression in the center. Place salad bowl with ingredients on top of ice, settling it well in the depression. Pour dressing over greens. Toss with a large salad fork and spoon until ingredients are well distributed and evenly coated with salad dressing. If using the ice bowl, toss with a circular motion to spin the salad bowl. Portion onto four places, heaping high. Garnish each plate with two teardrop tomatoes. For the Dressing: 3 tablespoons cider vinegar 3 tablespoons water 2 tablespoons applesauce 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce 1 1/2 teaspoons dry sherry 1 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt 1 teaspoon sugar 1/2 teaspoon Sweet Hungarian Paprika 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1 pinch parsley -- flakes, a pinch 2 drops Tabasco sauce 1/2 cup vegetable oil In a large salad bowl, combine lettuces, spinach or watercress, beets and egg. Sprinkle with seasoned salt and pepper. Toss with dressing (recipe below). Garnish each serving with cherry tomatoes and croutons. In a blender, combine vinegar, water, applesauce, Worcestershire sauce, sherry, seasoned salt, sugar, Sweet Hungarian Paprika, garlic powder and hot pepper sauce. Blend on high until combined, about 30 seconds. With the motor running on high speed, slowly add oil through the pour hole on the lid (remove center of lid) until combined, about 2 minutes. Refrigerate several hours before serving....See MoreWedge-shaped bins
Comments (2)I agree with you quiltglo. Although I don't currently own a corner lazy susan, if I did, I would consider these. What I do have is a collection of several sets of old glass pie shaped refridgerator jars on their own lazy susan, which fit in my fridge or on my dining room table. They make a lot of sense for saving space, and the LS is great for seeing what you have. I usually transfer jam/jelly, pickle relish, peanut butter or things like coleslaw, salad, etc. into these jars. Condiments take the most amount of room in my valuable cold storage real estate. If you get these, please come back and tell us how you liked them. If have a feeling you will!...See More- 7 months ago
