Final update on my refrigerator drama

Hi - I promised Chisue I'd add the final chapter of the saga of my new (in March 2025) Frigidaire refrigerator, a story as long as it was unpleasant.

As some of you know, I spent October and November in hospitals. Before I got sick, I registered a consumer complaint with the PA Attorney General's office. I scheduled one more appointment to (finally!) have the refrigerator door fixed, but had to cancel when I was hospitalized.

In late October, the owner of the store where I bought the refrigerator (and a range) wrote a letter to the Attorney General's office, which I read over a month later, when I got home. It is stunning in its dishonesty.

For example, it starts out saying a technician from the appliance repair service (unrelated to the appliance store) came to my house in April to fix the refrigerator's right-hand door, which would not stay open. This is true. She goes on to say the technician found a piece of plastic "that was stuck and it was not allowing door to open all the way. Technician removed the plastic and the refrigerator was working as designed." She got this information from the appliance repair service (a copy of their report was attached). It's completely untrue.

That day, the technician told me the door wouldn't stay open because the delivery guys from the appliance store hadn't leveled the refrigerator properly. Not long after, I conveyed this information to the store owner, who either forgot or didn't care. I don't know how to explain the repair service's made-up story.

The letter goes on to say the problems with cooling happened because I didn't close the refrigerator door properly, allowing warm air to enter. That's ridiculous. She describes (again, paraphrasing the report sent by the repair service) a series of rescheduled appointments (this never happened), and ends by saying all the parts had to be returned to the manufacturer "because she is sick and will call us back when she is ready."

I still have a long recovery ahead of me and have not had the energy to deal with this in any way. Honestly, I don't even care at this point. I'd like to get the door fixed because it's a royal pain to have it slam into my shoulder every time I try to reach for something inside. But the thought of confronting the store owner or the appliance service about their made-up version of events doesn't tempt me at all. I'm still under orders to keep my heart rate under 100.

Neither does it tempt me very much to start looking at refrigerators again, but I'm seriously thinking about the possiblity of selling this one after the door is fixed, while it's still under warranty, taking the loss, and getting something else. Maybe.
