What makes a bedroom cozy?
Comments (38)We have a fairly large bedroom and we both consider it very cozy. I think cozy is not really a matter of size, but how the space is furnished. If there are comfortable places to sit, to read, to put one's feet up, to write a note or check email when you don't want to go to your office, to step outside to enjoy the weather in a comfortable chair--- to me, this evokes a comfortable, safe feeling that is the epitome of "cozy." With respect to guest rooms, now that our children are out of the house we have several :) One is a large room with a double bed, a club chair and ottoman, a desk, dressing room and spacious bath. It is off by itself and has its own HVAC zone, so we usually put people there. The other two rooms have two twin beds and one single bed, respectively. We find that this configuration lends itself to a versatile combination of sleeping arrangements. The only thing I would change is to put a double in the room that holds one twin. But since my ,other is the one who uses that room most often and finds the bed very comfortable, we haven't bothered. And since we also have beds downstairs, they're not the only options. IMO it should not be considered a hardship for a married couple to sleep in twin beds for a few nights. In fact, I find the concern about it sort of odd. After all, it's only a few nights out of years.....right?...See MoreWant to help me choose accessories for blank slate bedroom(s)?
Comments (5)whenicit, Thanks, but I need LOTS of help! The other advantage to the 2nd layout in BR1 is that the headboard is rather high and if I put it along the wall, it won't block the windows which would probably be better. I'll see about adding seating when I get the beds assembled. We may have room and it would give me a project to scour antique shops. That is what I'm planning on doing for a nightstand in the second bedroom. A little shabby/chic, beachy. I was going to look through some "Real Simple" magazines for inspiration. I'm not sure exactly what I want yet, but I though a "weathered" table, perhaps in a fun color, would go nicely with the iron bed. ajsmama, Thank you for the suggestion on BR1. I agree that swaping the nightstand is much better. On BR2, I think I could move the dresser closer to the door. The only think I actually don't like about the dresser in that position in general is that I'm not fond of the look of it from the side, but no mater how far forward or backward it is, I'm going to have that problem... Comments (45)mammapinky Yes, they are. I did that on purpose. I wanted a different illusion than just the mirrors hanging, if that makes sense. I want the mirrors and curtains anchoring the bed, like a headboard. Thank you! To everyone mentioning the mirror height, don't tell my husband! (lol) He absolutely hates hanging curtains, shelves, mirrors and paintings. haha I'll have to wait to the weekend or a day we both have the time and we shall raise them. I'll have to ease him into it. ;) Should they go the same height as the curtains? Thing is, raising them any higher and the bottom of the mirrors show, which is not the effect I was going for. :/ chickadee2_gw Wow, thank you so much! :) I truly find this sight inspiring. I really appreciate all of the help you all have to offer! :) And now I can finally move on to the kitchen! rebeccamomof123 That really made me smile. :) I am so thrilled with how it all turned out and it is so nice having people to share it with, who understand. :) Thank you so much!...See MoreSusan Stern
