It’s taken me all morning but an idea just floated to the top. I think the answer to this puzzle is of dated usage

After getting nothing at all yesterday I just looked again and have a pretty good idea. Though KW’s comment leaves me scratching my head.

My insta-thought when I first saw the puzzle was ”rice (rise) pudding”, but like I said the pronunciation wasn’t quite right. Just as I pressed submit, the bells went off and I saw ”raisin pudding”

murraysmom, it can be like a figgy pudding ( as in ”bring us some……”) Sort of.

In Canada, some call it a figgy duff or raisin duff.

I’m sure that there are other versions.

Figgy pudding I've heard of only from the song. And "duff" is a new one as far as a food is concerned. I am more familiar with being told to get off my "duff". :)

I totally bombed on this one. My guess had to do with a saying about proof is in the pudding, That’s what I meant about being an old dated expression. Raisin pudding isn’t a dish that I’m familiar with but now that I see the answer, what else could it be? Seems it’s the obvious answer! I’m trying to let these puzzle answers ’float into my imagination’. 🤔

I guessed it quickly this time. But then I live in a pudding culture. I would not usually call it raisin pudding, though, it's more likely to be called spotted dick here. Served with custard, of course.
