Thanks all. Yes, those are hips from the rose, "Windrush". They are actually a pretty shade of orange but showed up yellow in the photo. Others are Hydrangea, Golden Rod, Virginia Creeper, a bit of Black Eyed Susan and Queen Anne's Lace. Tied together in the middle by raffia. And it would have been nice if I'd cleaned the bird poop off the gate before I took the photo! grrr.

Thank you lily, I hope no one tires of seeing my "wreath on the garden gate" pics. Yes, I love the birds too and just came in from filling the feeder on the edge of the field. Usually put a corn mix in that one to lure the sparrows and starlings away from the upper feeders right outside the kitchen window. Money's a little tight this payday so I'm not sure I'll be able to fill those up with the good seed mix I buy especially for them. But I always say that and end up scrapping enough coins together to go buy that bag! Just can't resist those birds staring in the window at me. The name "Atticus" comes to mind for your mockingbird only because of the movie "To Kill a Mockingbird" with Gregory Peck. Not a very nice reference but I always liked that movie.

Thank you. The tall door is the original schoolhouse door but is no longer the main entrance (not since 1940 or so when the school closed and was sold to my uncle who created a house out of the structure). Date the school was built is unknown but most agree it is cira 1870.

Thank you everyone. dalmadarling, I just gathered bouquets of Hyradangea and Golden Rod keeping stems long, arranged them into the shape of a bow tie with equal amounts or lengths on both sides (as much as possible) tied them in the middle with some raffia. Then with the rest of the things I gathered, Queen Anne's Lace, Virginia Creeper, Black Eyed Susan and rose hips, I began sticking those in here and there under the knot of raffia and using loose strands of the raffia to tie and anchor them in more tightly when needed, until I liked what I saw. Then trimmed stems here and there so they didn't hang beyond or down too far. For the hanger, I just happened to have a piece of rusted barbed wire that used to be on a birdhouse. I attached that to the back of the raffia knot by using wire threaded through the knot and wound around the ends of the barbed wire.
