please tell me this is just a bit of rot...
Comments (31)I feel for you. My Charles Grimaldi, which I ADORED, suddenly started splitting and eventually died. I thought it was watering related, and I got several cuttings to root, but they too died within a year, so I'm thinking it was some sort of disease. So sad to lose anything we love. I've lost a lot of my favorite plants since I moved, and it's just depressing....See Moreconifers of thailand
Comments (14)There is an incredibly good book on Thai native trees! It's more lavishly illustrated, with beautifully sharp color pictures, than almost any other tree book I know of, and the descriptions are detailed as well. Published in 2000 by a swag of government agencies and NGOs, it's titled A Field Guide to Forest Trees of Northern Thailand, authors Simon Gardner, Pindar Sidisunthorn and Vilaiwan Anusarnsunthorn, of Chiang Mai University's Biology Department. I got my copy a year ago from Asia Books in Bangkok, price 850 Baht or about U$22, fantastic value. I am not aware that it's available outside Thailand. Although its scope is N Thailand, I have found it pretty useful in other parts of the country, as most of the lower-altitude N Thai trees occur more widely. It's helped me get my head around the more common Dipterocarps, for example, the dominant trees over much of Thailand. Conifers described are P. kesiya, P. merkusii (they hadn't caught up with P. latteri), Cephalotaxus griffithii, Podocarpus neriifolius, Dacrycarpus imbricatus, Nageia wallichianus (sic) and Dacrydium elatum. Calocedrus macrolepis is mentioned only in the key to conifer spp. I hope the publishers will forgive me for reproducing a scanned 2-page spread here, but it may help advertise this great book. It includes the maples (some quality lost from JPEG compression)....See MoreOT- Can I whine just a bit??
Comments (10)Well, if your kitchen turns out anything like the bathroom re-model you just did before this, it will be well worth the 'non-decorating' gene domination!!! And I'm sure your kitchen is a dream come true! Can't wait to see pics! After our floors remodeling I have put off the kitchen countertops & maybe taking down one cabinet to open up even more ...so I know your feelings first hand! Later it will happen. My decor has been lacking lately because of all this wonderful weather!...so I'm outside alot...but today is cleaning day for Easter weekend (inside, ugh) I'm glad you 'whined' as you stated... cause losing any mobility is just the pits! Hope it heals for you & that you will be able to use your left hand more soon! Happy Easter, Marlene. Jeanne S....See MoreJust a bit late for the equinox...
Comments (6)I think gardeners are probably more aware of each year's awakening than most of our contemporaries. It's strange to think of a not-very-distant time when everyone was acutely aware of the seasons and what the changing sky meant for growing things. As above, so below.
