Favorite Music?
Comments (94)My #1 favorite is black gospel. Anyone else familiar w/ Gospel at Colonus? I haven't heard kd lang for a few years now, but she had one of the best voices around, when you're talking pure vocal talent. Did anyone see her on the Grammys awhile back when she did Roy Orbison's "Crying"? Blew the roof off. As for Brokeback (Keith, rest in peace), my theory - a lot of straight guys are comforted by Queer Eye, etc. and uneasy about Brokeback because (shudder) in the movie, YOU CAN'T TELL BY LOOKING if a guy's gay. If that guy's gay and looks like a "regular" guy, and EYE look like a regular guy..... well, we gotta keep that trash away from the young people. :) DH is in an original heavy rock/light metal band and also in a rock cover band, so I hear loads of that music and like lots of it. qylliam - The Chieftans - are you talking about the Irish group? I got to hear them one time in concert. They were great. Anyone else familiar w/ Sweet Honey in the Rock? A capella group that does original music, black gospel, reggae, etc. Arthur, many of the band names are new to me, too. What genre is Cake? "Classic" country is terrific - Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline - rarely the crossover stuff. Some bluegrass. Shady Character - who does Bollywood *style*? I gotta hear these people. :) Whitecat8...See MoreBeach / Pool Music
Comments (85)Dreambuilder. Being inside and not in direct sunlight or the elements of Mother Nature, you have a lot of options. It almost the same as if you were selecting a tv for you living room or any other room in the house. It depends how far away you will be sitting from the tv during normal viewing. A good general rule of thumb is to get a tv one third the size of your seating distance. With today's hi def displays, a 2:1 ratio is even possible. If the Tv is too big or you're sitting too close, you will be able to see pixels in the picture being displayed...not a good thing. Example, if the tv will be 10' from the hot tub, then a 40" tv would be the minimum size and a 60" TV would be the biggest size. If the hot tub is 5' from the tv, then a 20"-30" TV would be recommended. Regarding the type of TV, any technology will be fine since you're indoors. Plasma is not as bright as LCD but generally has a better picture and is far better than LCD when viewing from an angle. Plasma's also tend to be more expensive than LCD. LCD tv's are brighter, so if your hot tub room is bright, this may be the better choice. The downside of LCD is the picture will become dimmer if your sitting at an angle to the TV. LCD's are the least expensive technology these days unless you get into cutting edge local dimming edge lit LCD's which carry a premium price tag. Hope this helps....See MoreA very noisy wind chime
Comments (62)But Manny, what if the sail is made of wood? I do find that the trick to increasing/decreasing the sound is in the sail size and material and the length it hangs. I miss that beautiful black chime that played snippets of Amazing Grace, but it needed a more spacious venue than I could provide....See MoreHelp me make this awkward great room great
Comments (33)Love this room. I would consider painting the room a lighter version of any color in the brick because that is your focal point! The layout looks good too as you can see the tv and the fireplace while seated on the sofa. I think you should decide on the paint that will coordinate with the brick. Then choose a light large rug, maybe broadloom in a light tweed rug to banish the dark flooring and create contrast with your sofa. I would also put the cool guitars on either side of the TV in a long horizontal line to fill the wall. Try the copper piece between the two doors. Put a large rectangular mirror on the brick fireplace Find large art work for the far wall where the guitars are now...maybe a triptych to fill the area; Matching lingerie type tall chest on either side of the fireplace with colorful lamps on them. A console table behind the sofa facing the fireplace with a pair of low fat lamps, possibly brass or silver or zinc. A pair of lamps on the new art wall where the guitars are hanging now. Something that will look good with the art work; clear glass with colored lampshades? A large lounge chair between the TV console and the fireplace, basically where the ottoman is now with a side table and a lamp for reading. This will give you six pair of lamps for lighting and one floor lamp for lighting plus storage. They should be large and fat to fill the room. and light colored will give you contrast....Have light, white cream natural fabric, fur throw pillows on the sofa to lighten it up too. Light curtains, roman shades white pillows large art LIght rug, roman shades light pillows, light walls Colorful lamp shades and colorful lamp, ligth pillows Again light rug light pillows...See More- 12 months agolast modified: 12 months ago
