I just wanted to tell you that I was briefly in your country at the start of October, and I thought of you!

My husband and I went to England for a hiking trip centered mostly in the Cotswolds. We flew on Iceland Air. On the way home there was an extended flight delay. As a result we were late arriving in Reykjavik, missing our connection and staying overnight in a nearby Keflavik hotel.

Naturally we were not able to do any tourist things, but we did wander around the town near our hotel. I took photos, and even have a couple pictures of the northern lights. I did not see them myself, but some enterprising teenagers got up way earlier than I did, and they shared their photos with me. They told me that the northern lights are not seen frequently in that part of Iceland.

Lovely photo! Sorry you didn't get to see them in person, Rosefolly. There has been a lot of northern lights activity in the last couple of weeks, with lights being seen as far south as England. As someone who goes to bed early, I have missed every single display ;-)

Well, since I so blithely assured Netla that it wouldn't be a problem, I'll step up here. It cost me $37.00 to ship baking chocolate to Colleen in Australia and took 3 months for it to get there. It cost nearly $30 to ship to Lisa in Germany and took only 3 days, so times are pretty "approximate", I guess. As long as she doesn't mind the 6 week "slow boat" shipping and as long as she recognizes that I'm not sending a 10 pound smoked ham or cast iron, I'd ship to Iceland. What the heck, I'd just have to shop harder for light weight items and ship promptly. That would make it a bigger challenge, certainly. (grin) Annie

RB, I am sure the recipe you made was the real thing. I called it bastardised because, as the story was told to me, an Indian or Bangladeshi chef based in Britain had a customer demand sauce with his chicken tikka (which is chicken that has been marinated and then grilled and is traditionally served without sauce), and made up a creamy sauce to serve it in, creating a dish that has traditional Indian ingredients but has been adapted to British palates. It took several years before it actually reached India, so while it is similar to traditional Indian curries it is really an Anglo-Indian dish based on the traditional chicken tikka.

They were even visible in Kentucky although I couldn't see them for the city light pollution. My brother who lives in the country did see them.

They were also present here in Colorado, and I missed seeing them yet again.

Tom and I went to a Mannheim Steamroller concert that evening. By the time we got home they were no longer visible. Or perhaps not. Someone (who got a lovely photo) told us that they were nearly invisible to the naked eye at our location, but if you looked through the viewfinder on your cell phone you could see them and photograph them. She did, and I saw her picture. I tried that myself the next night when they were again supposed to be visible, but there was so much cloud cover that nothing could be seen.
