I had a neighbor who owned a Basenji. EVERYthing was unique about that dog! The strange noises it made, it climbed their trees and fence, it would stand on its back legs and walk around, and forget about playing fetch! If you tried to sweet talk this dog to get it to do something, he pretty much ignored the sound of your voice. I loved him and called him a ’catty-dog’ or a ’doggy-cat’.

Edited to add: I just remembered that he smelled delicious, like fresh hay or a pile of fall leaves.

ETA - can you describe what Basenji vocalization sounds like? I’ve been wondering if it’s at all like listening to a poor dog that has been surgically debarked. Criminal thing to do IMO. But, I’ve heard a debarked dog & the sound was terrible. Worse than a barking dog.
