Ordering a Magazine Subscription?

What site do YOU use for ordering magazines in the U.S.? I want to sign up a 11 year old for National Geographic and have seen prices all over the place for the same number of issues.

I just went to NationalGeographic.com and the home page offered subscription bundles for kids based on age. I would start there.

I haven't ordered many magazines in recent years other than Birds and Bloom for mother and I bought it online directly from the Birds and Bloom source. My only complaint was they would send so many specials and subscription offers in the mail, I never knew how many years in advance I had paid or where she stood on receiving it without interruption as she did enjoy it.

I'm not overly brave when it comes to signing up for something through one of the discount vendors, Quickly checking shows me decent prices for a childs one year subscription through Nat Geo themselve or through Barns and Noble who also have a good reputation. i'd stay away from any of the greatly discounted sources - but I tend to err on the side of being cautious even with my paypal account (never mind my credit card numbers!)

Notice I ordered for gifts...not for me! Y'all are my "Cooking Light! I got the magazine for a lot of years....but it got to much spa and beauty...so I dropped it. But my DIL loves it....and maybe my daughter would too... For $5 it's cheaper than buying her a margarita at lunch!! Linda C

Daisy, Daisy, Daisy...get thee to an online subscription source! :) Amazon does have great deals, especially around holidays. Keep checking as they cycle specials frequently. I also like Best Deal magazines. Have linked below to the site; it's an online vendor. They run discounts on their discounts(!) constantly. One word of warning from someone who was burned twice by these companies who offer magazine subscriptions at deal prices. Only order one year. I paid for two subscriptions for two years, the companies I ordered them from paid the magazine for only one year. After fighting for months to get the two different companies to either pay the rest of the subscription or give me back my money, I've given up.

I usually go directly to the source, just like I do for booking hotel rooms or train tickets, etc. I want to deal with the original seller directly, so I can return to them for any problems or concerns. So when I subscribe to a newspaper or magazine, I do it directly with the newspaper or magazine.

Correct, it does not - but what it can do is slow things down, complicate things, and require you to sort out a game of "he did it!" as they accuse each other of mistakes. So, yes it can compromise someone's ability to sort out problems. Been there, done that. Those sites are great if all things go well, but less so if things get mucked up.

I've never experienced that, nothing close. I'll compare my years of untold/uncounted numerous experiences to your's, as someone who "usually" doesn't do it that way.

Discount Magazine will not accept MC or VISA. National Geographic is having a sale this week. Thank you for thoughtful replies. I ordered from NG knowing if there is a problem VISA has my back.

No, it's not a competition. Something I do almost always in a multi-person family of travellers, not always travelling at the same time or together, and you usually don't do at all, which of our cumulative experiences provides a greater sample size to assess for a generalization?.

The only credit card I have is a Visa and I still get most of my subscriptions from Discount Mags. Maybe a new requirement but if you've been with them for some years they still take the Visa?
