Which magazine subscription?

I've never get any magazines but DH's cousin is selling them for girl scouts so I was going to pick one. Which of these has the most bang for the buck?

Better Homes & Gardens

Country Living

Good Housekeeping

House Beautiful

Martha Stewart Living

Southern Living

Taste of Home

This Old House

Traditional Home

I've never really looked at any of these except maybe waiting in the checkout line in Lowes. I'm not a fan of the magazine being mostly ads but don't know if it's possible to get completely away from that.

Just looking at titles, I was thinking House Beautiful or Traditional Home.

Thoughts? I'm open to hearing about something great that's not listed above too. Maybe I missed it in the selection.

I think you would like Traditional Home, I find it has a mix of styles although basically traditional, it stays fresh and current.

I think both you and your husband would enjoy This Old House. Lots of decorating pictures, and "How To's".

Traditional Home and Country Living are also good magazines.

Cottage Living went out - told me I would get Southern Living in its place or could call an 800 number to change. I called, canceled Southern Living, and got 1 year each of Natural Health and Shape magazines. But somehow I am still getting Southern Living even after canceling it twice, so I am getting 3 magazines in place of 1. But sadly, none of them hold a candle to Cottage Living. I loved that magazine. The Natural Health is pretty interesting if you're into watching what you eat, alternative meds, etc. Southern Living seems to be full of fattening recipes, which I don't need. Sounds like you are keeping busy--and out of trouble! Years ago we went thru London but I imagine things have changed. Seemed to remember it was a nice little town. I took advantage and get about 8 different ones but I'm not renewing any of them. Even All YOu which started out with lots of cents off coupons has been a big disappointment. I take my address off them and take to the laundramat. I get a lot of offers from Amazon

Hmmmmm - I get House Beautiful, Traditional Home, Country Living and BHG. The dream one I wait for each month is HB and the realistic one that I look forward to and know I can achieve something in is CL. I always forget about TH and it's always a nice surprise when it shows up in my mail box each month. I don't plan on renewing BHG.

House Beasutiful or Traditional home if you mainly want decor/design.

Southern Living, MS Living or BH&G if you also want recipes, lifestyle.

Taste of Home is 100% recipes, no ads.

We get This Old House for the ame reason -- DH signed up for it through his grandaughter's school. IMHO, the "how to" articles are a little obvious, and if you're not in a home from 1930 or earlier, then it's not really about you. I think every issue finds a new use for tin ceiling panels.

At one time Southern Living was an excellent publication. Times have changed. When their recipes started using processed foods I stopped subscribing. Plus their gardening info was always a few months late for my zone.

Speaking of gardening ... did you contact anyone yet?

If decorating is your priority when choosing, knowing how you like Nell Hill so much, I'd pick Traditional Home if you can only get one. It features the traditional decor you seem drawn to, but presents current twists. House Beautiful would be a great choice too!

For recipes and food, go with Southern Living and BHG.

The gardening element of Southern Living is negated by Shee's location, and that's a third of the magazine.
And I do agree the magazine is not what it used to be at all.
I do like the recipes and the decorating though.
I can be found ripping out pages at doctors offices, ever so occasionally!

MArtha Stewart for the wide variety of things she covers and the projects large and simple. Taste of Home for the food - great 'everyday' kinds of recipes, as well as things for larger groups. crock-pot cooking, etc.

I like and take Southern Living and BHG. I also get Traditional Home and House Beautiful.

You don't seem to have an interest in old homes, you don't decorate country so I'd rule those out. You might enjoy Southern Living, but like Bumble said - some of it will not apply to your area. Although I sometimes get Coastal Living and enjoy it.

I've not looked at MS Living in a long time. I think House Beautiful and Traditional Home (to me) reflect more of your tastes.

Hey everyone! I haven't had internet for the past few days and still don't have it. Not at home right now.

I think I'm going to try Trad Home this time. It's a two year deal instead of the HB. Will this one subscription turn me into a mag. junkie? ha.

Natal - Haven't done anything yet. I need to read up more on the basics because right now it would be pretty obvious I'm clueless. I remembered an old coworker was also a landscaper and a good one. I think I'll contact him first actually.
