Ride for Dad was yesterday

last year

I take part in the Ride for Dad motorcycle run every year. It's the charity that's nearest and dearest to my heart. 472 riders took part yesterday. We get a police escort going through parts of the city. Not stopping at red lights etc. Many people were filming as we drive. Last year we raised $147k and the money stays here, for our hospital for research and development for prostate cancer.

Hope it was at least as successful as last year!

What did you catch a ride on this time?

FOAS, a Harley but it wasn't a "couch bike". Those are the most comfortable. Lol

Look under the seat for the Sears 917.xxxxxx number. I don't know if that's an electric or manual PTO. IF manual, look underneath to make sure the drive belt for the deck is still intact. Belt replacement/adjustments are covered in the OM which can be downloaded at- searspartsdirect.com This post was edited by bill_kapaun on Wed, Jul 23, 14 at 11:14

What a great attraction! Hope the weather was clear and you could see for miles. What a treat! I've never forgotten going up in the Goodyear blimp when I was about ten years old. We were in Florida and 'knew someone who knew someone', so got to take a ride out over the shore. When they cut the motors it was absolutely silent up there. It felt just like you *dream* it would feel like to be able to fly!

Matthias, it's a Charity motorcycle run to raise money for Prostate Cancer. It's world-wide, but our city has their own chapter and all the money raised goes to our hospital for prostate cancer research and treatments. Ride for Dad $2M has been raised so far for our hospital, and last year we raised $101K. This year is off to a great start as well. My late hubby was the Honorary Ride Captain last year, which is why it's so dear to my heart. We rode (as passengers, we don't own bikes) in the front group.

Thank you, thank you for all of your kind words and good thoughts. I'm past the point of really caring what I post about hubby, he was on tv numerous times, there's a photo of him at the hospital promoting the OTN project, etc etc. So I posted a pic of myself, we're all friends here. :-) It was a very emotional day to be sure. The Ride is on June 1 and I have someone who is taking me as a passenger.......a big Harley. I'll be sure to post pics of the bikes etc, as I did last year. This is such an amazing organization to be a part of. I donate money to the cause, I'm going to try and volunteer next year.

Looks like a fun day Jasdip. With nice weather to boot.

Very good cause. My father succumbed to prostate cancer in 1995.

You're in the Ottawa area correct?

Good cause and I hope the ride raised a lot of money.

I hope men strongly consider the PSA test. I have a friend who’s life was saved thanks to that test and a doc who knew how to evaluate.

Good reminder for me. I’ve never had a PSA, and it’s been years since I’ve seen a PCP. And years since the time before that, and decades the time before that. It’s probably time!

Tom, my hubby died of prostate cancer in 2018. That's the importance to me.

LJ, I live in Waterloo Region. There is one fellow that attends each year from the states. This is our 25th year locally. The Ride for Dad is Canada wide, held on different dates.

Ottawa had theirs yesterday, with 1,000 riders. I'd love to know the amount of money they raised.

I'm going to register on the site and post a link on my FB

For ever $100 raised, a ticket is entered for a new Harley or a Trip through the Rockies 😁 pledges are accepted until the end of Oct.

Wonderful cause and looks so fun! I may have written this last year but our local fundraiser is a Toys for Tots run at Christmas. All the bikes show up with a toy strapped on the back (or front, or side) and ride through town to the state capitol building. It's really a hoot to see all these big, tough looking bikers with big stuffed toys riding behind them. One year 2 friends and I were driving home from the airport after picking up a Cambodian refugee they were sponsoring. We stopped to wait for the parade of bikes to pass - it's quite a sight. Our guest didn't speak much English andi we didn't speak ANY Cambodian, so there was no way to explain what was happening. I really wonder what she thought, on her first day in the US!

Such a great cause, Jasdip. I remember seeing your posts about this when I first joined Houzz some years ago. Yes, the importance of a PSA!

@Jasdip - what a wonderful ride for a good cause. It looks like it was very successful. I rode a Harley for 17 years and took part in several charity rides. I enjoyed the camaraderie of the rides. Alas, age and increased traffic congestion in my area caused me to sell my bike four years ago.

Thanks for sharing!
