If you're near a Costco or Sam's Club, I'd check there. Mine stock multi-packs of white wash cloths that are a good thickness for me. Towels, I believe, are sold individually but they look good quality. I can't say whether there's decorative banding or not.

I've been very happy with the towels I got from Garnet Hill. I bought bath towels, but I imagine hand towels are the same just a different size.

Check Anthropologie - they have some with fringe at the end instead of banding.

Personally, I prefer towels from Land's End. Their banding is more like a ribbed detail at the end, and it is not flat.

I also thought white sales were in January. February is when we have our best weather - it's been in the low 80s lately but will be in the low 90s by the end of the week, and so maybe I can start using the pool again.

My fave brand is also from Macy's - it's Martha Stewart Quick Dry towels. They're plush (enough for me) and ribbed on one side so they're lightweight compared to regular towels. I do not like heavy towels.

I do like Macy's for bed and bath textiles - good quality for very reasonable prices, IMPE.

I picked up a 6 pack of washcloths @ Aldi some time ago and they're plain with no decorative banding. However, that's something not regularly available, but rather one of Aldi's 'Finds'.

For basic basic washcloths, you might try Walmart or Target or JCPenney...

Costco carries basic white hand towels right next to the bundles of washcloths. Nice weight. Since I got mine to clip on to a Swiffer mop to swab floors I can attest to their durability. I do also use them as hand towels in the bathrooms. Not the same ones of course. No ribbing.

I don't like the decorative band either. I saw Hygro towels recommended here and bought Kohl's version a few years ago. I like them, and the band is minimal. They have another Sonoma towel with no band but it's not Hygro. Their Vera Wang towels are nice too but a little thicker.

I also recommend checking Costco or Sam’s if you’re a member. The towels I bought at Sam’s almost 10 years ago are still going strong.

DH is fussy it comes to towels. Honestly, money is no object!

His favorite turned out be Kohls, The Big One. It’s a thin towel.

I like Nate Berkus towels at Target although I don't know if they're still there. I like heavy thick bath towels.

I don't like a really heavy plush towel other than possibly my guest bath. Leisurely spa-like bathing isn't something I do 😊, and I like bath towels that will dry overnight on a towel bar before heading for the hamper. I don't like damp in my hamper growing who-knows-what.

DH is even worse. He likes a towel about the time it becomes too thin and worn to even be used. I have a terrible time convincing him I cannot buy new worn out towels.

Lately I've been buying Enchante Home towels. Macy's, Nordstrom Rack, not all that expensive - they look nice, come in several colors either with or without a contrasting header and wear well. They dry well too, without being so heavy they make DH complain.

My fav used to be Charisma but I find the quality seems to have lessened. (fraying).

I have to pass on the bath sheets. DH might drip dry before using one.

lily -- DH likes big bath towels too. His are about 30 X 50; awkward, and they weigh a ton I when wet. After showering I use my washcloth to absorb some water off me before I step out. A hand towel (18 X 30?) is plenty to finish drying. Then begins the slathering of Gold Bond for Diabetics. I'm not diabetic, but it's the richest blend.

I prefer thick towels, and they dry very quickly in this climate, with 5% to 15% humidity. If necessary, I can put them outside for half an hour to dry.

I also dry off very quickly coming out of the shower - less so in the winter, however. Often my face is too dry for shaving, and so I will often shave before taking a shower.

I also prefer Super BIG and THICK Egyptian cotton or Turkish bath sheets. We have a towel warmer, they dry super fast. These were for a guest bath. Link These are super absorbant...no decorative edging and a really good price. Click on the link above....

Note: I also purchased EXTRA ones to take with us to the gym. My gym bag can't hold the REALLY big towels. LOVE these towels!

They feel thick enough without being overly thick, which I also don't love. They also last a while. My sister stocks them in her beach cottage that gets a lot of use. In the summer, they are washed almost daily. Personally, I haven't liked the bundled white towels or wash cloths - especially the wash cloths - at Costco.

I use the Costco wash cloths in the kitchen and for cleaning. Years ago their bundles were higher quality; we stocked our rental condo with those towels.

Many towels lose half their bulk in the washer; there must be some sleight of hand involved.

I have hand emroidered hand towels from grandmother that I'm too scared to use (weird I know)--pillow cases too. I feel like I shouldn't use them. I usually buy towels from lands end and they have lasted a long time!

I buy the Costco bath sheets and regular bath towels for hair towels. i probably haven't bought towels anywhere else in over 20 years.

One think I ’ve noticed when I buy all cotton fluffy towels it that, even after washing and drying, they do not absorb water intil they have been washed or dried about 6 or more times? It is as though there is some coating on the fiber, perhaps a fabric softener or something for sales/showroom appeal. It is annoying.

Anyone else notice this?

The last group of medium-fluff towels I bought were from Carohome — a woman/women owned company. I like that they are 100% cotton and the ”pile” is not too long.I cannot recall where I bought them.I would buy more.

Sad...but true....I have six bathrooms at this house. I have a LOT of experience buying towels....currently...in this market. 😂

I prefer using linen towels. They are thin and a little ”scratchy” and i love them! They are effective and they dry quickly.Guest bath has standard plush and a linen option.
