I did learn how to open pickles. Take a church key type can opener and use the rounded end gently pry up on the edges of the lid...keep going around and around with a gentle pry and all of a sudden you'll hear the pfff which is the vacuum seal releasing. Then the lid will come off easily.

Salvador Dali had a painting and it had melting clocks in it. The melting clocks symbolize time being different and more fluid in when you are dreaming. I think this is what a joke is alluding to., Perhaps the woman is saying that there is not a lot of reality going on and opening the curtains and seeing a Salvador dali like picture is tantamount to saying that things are very unreal right now. I am guessing and could be completely wrong. :-).

We used to have a long dog at our house. (While I must plead guilty to operating a cluttered house - no wife!) And - living in the countryside without a car so depending on hitchhiking to get to a village , where the bus runs morning and afternoons only (but don't try hitchhiking at night: better have cab fare in reserve) I'm on rather a short leash: any minor physical difficulty may very likely require moving to (an apartment?) in the city. Which I can afford, for 15 or 20 years or so - and, starting from the mid-90s, that seems like a fairly reasonable timeframe.timeframe. So - it looks like I have a substantial winter clutter-winnowing job ahead. What's that you say?
