A music book. It was my Moms, she used to play songs from it on the piano. It is one of my fondest memories as a child, gathering around the piano, picking songs and singing.

Is this the same book, theresa? We had this one - and I love the illustrations. I'm glad I scanned a bunch of pages from it. We did a lot of gathering around our piano as well.

I'm not sure if it survived hurricane Helene or not. I'd need to check, since all our books that made it are in storage boxes now. Sadly, our old piano fell victim to the flooding.

I haven't been clicking on these threads for some time, since we've been so preoccupied with the aftermath of the 2 storms. I need to do so more often, I think 🙂

My father read from this very book. He was a wonderful reader, and would act out the parts. It was magical.

its not the same book, but similiar. It was a book of folksongs with great illustrations, like yours.

probably made by the same company, maybe just different years or editions?

Yes - noting that the cover on mine says 'new edition with guitar chords'. Mine is dated 1947, but I think we got it in the mid-to-late 1960s. I believe there was a series of those books covering different genres of music. I have another of children's songs with very 1960s style illustrations.

Have you tried alibris.com or eBay?

Now that you have the title, it shouldn't be too difficult.

There is a Fireside Book of Favorite American Songs as well, but the illustrator is different.
