It keeps getting bigger

My family it is.

You remember my post about our newest dog, Cookie? She is doing great BTW. Well, I could not figure out why my SO was so wishy washy about her. She's not bothering anything, so why was he not as into the thought of keeping her as I was?

Well, turns out he had a surprise in store for me for Christmas.

Meet Pepper. SO named her. She was a Christmas surprise and the reason SO was so hesitant to bring yet another critter home for me to care for. She is so cute! I do not LOVE the puppy stage but I do love puppies! SO welcome Pepper (Her Grace, The Duchess Bernadette Pepperpot, Pepper for short) to my family!

I am hoping for Celtis and not mulberry, but I am not good with hackberry. I don't think that's Nyssa - the nyssa I have is considerably lighter in color, leaves are closer together and broader. The sapling in the photo just does not fit in with the rest of them, and the Nyssa is growing under the same conditions. Whatever it may be, it's a graceful little tree! Thanks for the advice. I'll look at a gillion more photos to compare with now. :)

Yup - I got to spend my gift certificate to a local greenhouse yesterday, and that was fun. I did have dd with me, tho, so I was a little bit more rushed, but that may have been just as well. ;) I got: 3 tomatoes (Brandywine, Early Girl, German Johnson - the last I've never heard of before) 1 basil 2 yellow peppers, 1 red (sweet) pepper, 1 purple pepper (and that one was HUGE!) big basket of fuschia for the front door - first time for that, but it looks gorgeous, need a pic 2 4-packs lavender snapdragons 2 4-packs, oh, heck, I can't remember what they were - short, with little purple button-y flowers 1 godetia, I think? Since they were all inside the greenhouse, I'm letting them harden off a little bit. At least over the weekend, I got everything *else* planted!

lindakimy, I'm sure yours will do well also. I was hesitant as we are zone 4 and it is classed as a zone 5 and above plant. But has never faltered here. I planted it in 2004 I believe, and we have had a few rough winters since then. Annie, there's always room for one more? :-) I almost hate to mention it, but the house color is changing next spring. We will be building a garage then and with that much more siding, the pink/salmon would just be too much. Right now we are thinking of using the green that is on the trim for the siding color and picking a different color for trim. Annette, not sure how your zones are classed. Are they the same as ours? Flowerlady...yes, bigger every year! Thinking maybe next year I should give it a second prune in early summer. Glad that everyone is enjoying seeing the pictures. It really is a sight to see!

The main point of my post was to see if it odd for the 'Mac' to grow in shade,like the mother did for like 4-5 years, and bloomed constantly, and basically to grow so fast after re-potting? I intend to trade, or sell, cuttings either rooted or unrooted as soon as I can. And as soon as i get my first umbel, I am going to figure out how to post pics. of the blooms. I have some now, but I still do not understand 'photobucket'. I've tried and tried and all I get is a row of numbers and letters in my post. But I have pictures of the mothers blooms, on 'real' film, and on the computer, I have to look for them, and see if I can post them. to get the hang of it. I just wondered if I got lucky and got an odd 'Mac' that likes what it isn't suppose to like, shade, water,and small potted. I think it likes to be potbound, right? So it will be in the 6in basket for a while. It is humid beyond belief and hot as all heck, but it is a outside northern exposure open porch. It WAS on a semi enclosed southern porch, getting morning sun on it till 11am or so. And it grew little, it was just stagnant. Then I potted it up into a small hanging basket and in less than 1 month it is growing like gang busters. Is that odd? Or pure luck? Just wondered if others grew their 'Macs' with that kind of exposure ,or some other way? Maybe had some hints to get it going even better? So far my new starter plant of H. Albiflora, my new 'big flower' is taking off to. It is on the back porch right now, but I have to find a place right next to the Mac to hang it, and see if it likes that area as well. Want to hang it up in a basket as well, and get vines all over the place. Still trying to find places to put all the other more common hoyas that I love, all my fuzzy ones:) Like my 'Red Buttons' plant, a place to live out front. Thats where every hoya I have lives, except my 'Tsangii', it is on the back porch and it grows great,and the smell of hot melted butter from the blooms is just overwhelming! But every other one likes the front. I guess its the air and humidity and it is very bright,just no direct sun. Even my most common 'H. Carnosa Variegata Rubra', that I got at Lowes, just for the foliage, never thought about its blooms, is covered in about 20 big round balls of pink fuzzy flowers! I just looked at the 'Mac' next to it, and its only been two days and the new growth has doubled in size, and the newest growth is still deep red...so pretty. Maybe this is my reward for all the cr-p I have had last year and this year, so far. I hope. Send me even 1 'Mac' flower, and I'll be thrilled!

Well, it’s a perfect name combo! There is a Swedish Christmas cookie called pepparkakor! A thin, crispy gingerbread, rolled and cut into shapes. Uh oh, next thing you know a ginger cat will walk into your lives.

We have 4 dogs and a cat now. Yes, everyone gets along great. George, the cat is always a little skeptical at first, but I took him with Cookie to the vet, as it was time for his yearly shots anyway. He was not happy in his carrier, though he likes the attention he gets at the vet. Cookie was a great comfort to him. When he would meow in distress, she would go to his carrier and he would bump his head against hers through the carrier. So now they are good friends. He and Leo have always been BFFS. And our old 13 year old dog is really laid back and pretty much okay with anything going on. Leo is very excited about Pepper. And Pepper seems happy to meet Leo too. Leo was not as thrilled when Cookie showed up, not sure why, but now they are friends.

Oh yes, my SO actually does most of the training. He is much better at it than I. I do more of the day to day care and vet visits, baths, giving any meds, stuff like that. He does the bulk of the behavior stuff.

Pepper reminds me of my favorite dog Ziggy who died last year. I love black and white dogs.

Amylou, I once had a ginger tabby named George! He was a kitten that was crying in the parking lot one midnight when I left work - the lot was alongside the riverbank and he was huddling there, soaking wet - I think he had been tossed into the river but managed to escape.

He had a great personality, as I think ginger tabbies tend to have - very friendly, loving, and well behaved.

All are adorable, but I love George the most! He looks like my ginger, Poppy. But she isn't the most loving, friendly cat in the house. That goes to the boys, Willy and Bernie.
