Doesn't houzz let you edit your username? Have you looked for your old account? I had to make a new password the other day when I couldn't sign in on one of my devices. I have a houzz account, but do not want to use it, so I stay signed out on that, and try to stay signed in on Gardenweb.com.

ETA: just checked and I can go to my settings and there is an option to change my username/password, but when I re-entered my password as required and clicked 'Submit', it just hung there for so long I gave up.

Click on "Your Houzz", then "Edit Profile and Settings".

The top field will be "User Name". Click on Edit and then change and save it.

I have a webuser ID as my User Name but my name in the box that says First Name (publicly displayed).

If Elmer's directions are successful will all the times they used the "HU...}" revert to their names?

So I went back to my profile page and I was able to change my First Name without having to change my username or enter my password.

Changed the last part from '9b' to '9/10'

Yeah, I responded too hastily. It is the "first name" that's publicly displayed. User name is for signing on.

I go to my profile and only have my username and email set. Email is set to private. Never filled out the public profile part using my real name. I can change my username which is displayed here simply by clicking edit.

I'm nobody now. I don't want to constantly have to enter a user name give my email address and then wait for a text message on my cellphone just to be a participant in a digital online community. I will read here as anonymous. I am from the planet analog. - formerly known as seagrass-cape cod.

Were you unable to edit your name? Are you using the app or going through a browser? Why do you have to sign in every time?

FWIW, there's a thread on the Home Decorating forums where Emily asked members to report glitches &/or bugs, since they're updating things. Did you post there yet?

I just don't have the bandwidth to figure this out. It exhausts me. Nothing is normal anymore, except maybe calling 911 then turning on the floodlights and opening the garage doors.

If you can't change the username then just sign your posts so we know what you are. I know that a long time ago, OJ lost his name somehow and he signs his posts so we know it's him. That is very annoying! My issue is that I cannot sign in to Houzz but can sign into gardenweb so I have to use the gardenweb links I had saved.

Are you using the app Seagrass? The app does not work on my Iphone or my Ipad. I book marked the site while I was logged in, then deleted the app.

I have it in Favorites. I can then change the name displayed as much as I want.

Open GW in another window and follow these steps:

Edit Profile and Settings

Profile Information

First Name (Publicly Displayed)

Enter your name. Click Update.

At one time you could only change your name twice a year. Is it possible you used up your two changes for the year? I remember that you had the same issue in the past.

I wish Houzz would get rid of HU names all together. Is it asking too much for members to pick a forum name? People pick pet and baby names so I think they can handle it.

Logout, you've accidentally logged into a different account. (Maybe you clicked "Continue with Google" or entered the wrong email?)

After you've logged out, click "Sign-In" and use "seagrass-gw" as your username in the "username/email" field. (Your username is "seagrass-gw", not "seagrass_gw Cape Cod", that's your display name).

Click "Email Me Link to Sign In".

A link to sign in will be mailed to the correct email address associated with you old profile. (You must have access to that email) If you don't get it, check your spam folder. Use only your username, that way the link will go to the proper email.

I think I inadvertently triggered an email or two to you while poking around, if so ignore it. If you didn't get it, it could be in "spam" or else you no longer check that email?

I think this is an unfair accusation. The settings and account features for users that are referenced are easy to find and easy to change. No different that what's found on other websites -cell phone carriers, email providers, streaming TV services, internet service companies. All are about the same. This site is not significantly different from ones like that, in my experience.
