Comments (19)Italian Parliament: This is a photo of the Italian Parliament, AKA Palazzo Montecitorio, which houses the seat of the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of the Italian Parliament. This is open to the public only once a month from October to June. It was very well guarded when I was there. It is located in the Piazza del Parlamento. Il Vittoriano is not the parliament building, but instead is a monument to the first king of a unified Italy, Victor Emmanuel II. It houses museums and is open to the public, much like the Lincoln Memorial. It does not house legislatures....See More

Guards at Palazzo di Montecitorio in Piazza Colonna, which has the Column of Marcus Aurelius. We walked in front of news cameras when we went to this piazza without knowing what was going on and then saw ourselves on the 7:00 news when we got back to our hotel. In April 2013 two carabinieri military police officers were shot and seriously injured outside Palazzo Chigi during the swearing-in of the new government led by Enrico Letta, and the piazza was temporarily closed. I don't remember what happened when we were there.

He was so funny - made the first-grader volunteers from the audience wear felt crash helmets and goggles then line up so the dogs could jump over them. The kid with the baton, beret and goatee was the designated ringmaster and hit a cymbal 😄
