Thanks for asking! We're all pretty mopey. He got fairly homesick the first night. He's at a three-day-long mixer type of event, getting to know everyone and the campus. That seems to be offsetting the down side. It's the evenings that are getting to him. I leave the contacting to him, and I get a lot of texts in the evening. He even called me yesterday. Hopefully he'll settle in next week. I guess my difficulty with it is, you spend all of their lives bonding with them as much as possible, so that they'll be well-adjusted adults. And then it just suddenly gets cut off. It's such a strange feeling!

Taken years ago, Fred, the groundhog and our dog, Luther. Fred lived in our backyard for a long time and I was afraid, Luther, who was half German Shepherd and have Black Lab, would catch him. I wish I had gotten a picture of Fred after I borrowed a Have a Heart trap from the local animal control people and watched him reach into it and pull out a nice, big, juicy apple I put in there to catch him. I never caught him but watched him happily snack on that apple. Not too long after I gave up on the trap, Fred left my yard. I don't know what happened to him. Apparently Kentucky's groundhog died today and was replaced with a new guy. He predicted early Spring.
