My guess is that it is an adaptation they made to family recipes or similar, so in their mind it is a newer innovation, since whoever else they know who cooks didn't do that. So perhaps what they're really saying is "a millennial trick amongst the people and recipes I know" ... they just left out the qualifier. I agree, though, using canned beans is not a new trick.

I generally assume that nothing I come up with is truly a new concept. Surely someone else was also too lazy to want to do step x and came up with a similar work around before me ... even if I didn't find it explained on the internet (gasp!).

If they used a preset on an Instant Pot instead of a traditional pressure cooker, I might call that closer to a generational thing, not because only one generation does it but because the tool became popular after older generations would have developed a lot of their cooking preferences.

BB, you have a truly kind heart. I'm the one, usually, who excuses the car ahead being driven weirdly, saying maybe they're looking for an address, etc. I don't really buy it for this case, though: too laughable. Carol might have the right of it, thinking the production team coached them to give generational tips, and that one just clunked because post lead closures on commercially canned foods, and higher scrutiny of safety in general, led to their great popularity mid-20th C. , and canned beans have been a staple food much longer than that. Sure, it was an innovation for the contestant, but hardly a ”tip”.

I so agree with you on the nothing news. I imagine up little inventions, gizmos, all the time, then go to Google to see where I can get one. There's usually the thing I thunk up already on the market. And when I create a recipe, I'm under no illusion that it's unlike any other. ;)

They are fortunate IMO to be that ignorant of canned beans.

Beans were one of the first foods to be canned back when it all started.

I keep a pantry full of canned beans of different varieties and they are perfect and wonderful. If I were to make something like New Orleans red beans, for instance, I would use dried beans and make a pot of them. But, canned beans are so versaitile and having a can of them ready to use and having a variety of them avialble makes them a great kitchen staple!

I dont understand why cook a pound of dried beans and then freeze them, unless they are, maybe, something special that you cooked. Unless you are dealing with some kind of special bean cooked some special way, the canned ones are just wonderful and always ready to use. i have even used them to make an impromptu pot of red beans, at times, or a quick bean soup.

Love the canned beans!!! Especially when I have a nice piece of non sweet cornbread to go with it!

Soaking good dried beans overnight is 30 seconds.

Three or 4 1/2 pints. a few pints of beans made

from dried in the freezer is a quick meal. A few pints of mixed grain in the freezer are an easy overnight thaw for any meal...a stir fry or a side dish...

Purchased broth, 90% of all gummy sweets, gummy bears, etc. Jello, processed foods, many dressings, pudding mixes, on and on.. use cheap cow, pork, bones, tendons for the collagen thickeners.

Hillarious that some poster thought making stock from meaty bones seemed 'gross'.

Clueless that they are consuming many distracted bones.

I make a mixed grain once a week and do freeze few half pints...

I have one daughter that cooks and one that doesn't. The one that cooks calls and asks for advise. The one that doesn't, along with her wife, I got Hello Fresh, the cooking kit thing that actually got them to start cooking! They now call and ask about doing things from scratch!
