We do not so no help here other than to say we stayed in a vacation rental with the TV over the FP and DH and I both thought it was a very uncomfortable viewing position. Many people seem to do it though but it's not for us. I also don't like the appearance but the frame TV would help with that problem.

I tend to agree about the viewing position which is why we have never done it, although it is extremely popular. There are tons of posts on "TVs over fireplaces", so I won't add to that.

I am really asking about these narrower questions

- have you used an arm

- did you find any issue with heat

- where do you hide ancillary stuff

I recently got a new flat wall-mounted tv. All the cords can go down through the wall. Most tvs also have a place you can attach your streaming box, but I wonder then how flat against the wall it can be.

My fireplace is right in the middle of the wall where I would normally have placed my tv. I did not want it over the fireplace, both looks-wise and viewing height. With a good wall mount you can move the tv up and down, tilt, angle, etc. However, ergonomically preferred viewing height (relative to where you're sitting) means you'll have to pull that tv way lower than you might expect.

My tv is mounted off center so I needed a good wall mount that will let me pull it out and angle towards a couple of different rooms. Works great. However, when not watching tv, I hate the look of the erector set scaffolding behind the tv and always put it back flush against the wall. You'd have to be moving that baby up and down all the time, fingerprints, etc.

ETA: my cords go down through the wall and come out behind the media cabinet. The Apple TV lives in the media cabinet. Since you'd have a fireplace below, you'd probably have to attach your box or streamer to the back of your tv, now no longer flush. I looked at the Samsung Frame website and none of their examples show it over a fireplace. My daughter had her TV over a fireplace and insisted it was fine. It's fine for visiting and watching a football game but I can't see it for all the time.

We have a tv on an extension arm over a gas fireplace. We are cautious, keeping the TV in place, not extending, when using our gas fireplace. We are in So Cal, so we do not use the fireplace as often as you might. We have built in shelves with cabinets on each side of our fireplace, our ancillary stuff is kept here.

While not ideal, this set-up is the best option for our quirky family room.

Ours is over our gas FP, but not on an arm. We use our FP quite often in the winter and have had zero problems with the TV. I think as along as you keep it raised up while the FP is in use, you should be just fine. I really, really, really wanted the Samsung Frame TV, but knew that aesthetically, I wouldn't be able to live with that box you have to have with it.

Mar 19, 2024 — First of all, the no-gap wall mount that comes with the TV is AWESOME. It mounts your TV directly onto the wall, exactly like a piece of art.

I do not believe that the no-gap wall mount articulates.

I don't have one, so no personal experience. But from what I've seen, the box is mounted inset in the wall behind the TV. Between studs. So the TV is still flush to the wall.

We have an older samsung frame. The box is in an adjacent bookshelf where it cannot be seen. If you have a good enough electrician and/or installer the box is not a problem.

If your goal is to use a moveable arm mount I would not bother with the frame tv. Its whole raison d’etre is to not look like a tv, and for that you need to buy the additional, more substantial deco frame to fit around the frame that is part of the tv casing. IDK if that would stay in place being pulled to and fro, but the minute you pull the tv with an ”enhanced” frame away from the wall and tilt it down you have a very weird looking situation.

My goal is a frame TV, but I am wary of installing it and not having the option to lower it, if possible.

Maybe we will try a mock up in situ to see how it feels to us. Many people put up with it.

FYI, i think this would be acceptable. One helpful thing is that the fireplace is on the far side of the room and not in a place where I would walk by and see the side view. I would have to go out of my way to see that view.

Just a quick thought. If you mostly are viewing from apps, would a projector provide sufficient quality? If so, would you have a plain enough wall in the right position to act as the screen?

Gigi, I think it *has* to have a box, but this one is small enough to go in the wall I think.

Is there a frame tv that has the apps and not a box? we do not mount our tvs on the wall, as we have ours in cabinets, but we have smart tvs with apps, no box.

In PA, we have all our TVs over fireplaces. They aren't Samsung, though, just regular TVs. We have little insets cut out into the wall behind the TVs where we hide the Apple TV because we built the house. and planned it that way. In this day and age, though, why would you need a cable box? Our new house we just have all smart TVs so they mount on the wall and are self-contained (we had electricians move plugs so you don't see the plug).

We went to considerable expense to put arms behind the TVs .in PA. Fancy ones with remotes, etc. Do you know how many times we have used them. Zero. I don't even know where the remotes are or if they work any more. And they made it a huge pain to take the TV down when we needed to.

Our TV over our wood burning fireplace tied pretty quickly. Maybe like .5 years., TVs are cheap, we just bought another one. The ones over the gas have been fine but we don't use those fireplaces nearly as much (Wood burning we put on every day we are there in the winter).

It's not about the cost. I do try not to contribute to waste when I can. And even though even frame TV are not terribly expensive at all, I'd hate to create a set up that guarantees premature obsolescence.

We don't have cable TV at our new place and there are few things, I don't recall what, that DH wants to see that we can't get w/o cable. For my purposes Id be fine watching everything right here where I'm typing!

Me too, I’m happy on my ipad. But… it’s anti-social and our only main floor choices for group movie watching were bedroom or main living area, and this was back when we were not sure DH would be able to go to the downstairs family room with the 72”. So here we are. I will say though that the Frame has much better art than were would have put over the fp!

We had one years ago with a tilting arm. I can't remember ever adjusting it, though.I didn't like it but everyone else did. It did feel too high to me. My SIL has a beautiful skinny tv in their living room (in Florida--no fireplace) in a very modern and ddg condo. When it isn't on, it is a beautiful "painting".

Do you give up something in quality to get the Frame or are they jsut as good?
