$1000.00 for PROM!
Comments (28)I'm going through the same thing here, myself! DD is a high school senior and we were out shopping for her prom dress a couple of weeks ago. Not only was I floored by the prices of many of the dresses but by the styles of many as well. Skintight (and I mean very, very form fitting), and many strapless or with very lowcut bodices and/or backs! Thankfully DD wasn't looking for one like that but she did comment many times during our shopping that I was acting like a prude (LOL)! With her being a 5'7" size 3, we had a really hard time finding a decent dress at a decent price. But we finally, thankfully, found her "dream dress" at Dillards. Like many of you have already mentioned, the thought of spending close to $1000 on a prom sounds like an awful lot to me, but perhaps we just live in a part of the country where folks don't spend that much. I know that DD and her close friends won't be spending even half that. I did hear that both Albuuquerque and Santa Fe were having free prom dress events last month, which I thought was such a great and thoughtful idea. I'm wondering if any of the restaurants around here will be having specially priced, budget-friendly prom night dinners. That would be much appreciated by both kids and parents. Comments (13)My daughter found a beautiful royal blue floor length dress at a used dress sale held every year at her all-girls high school. We also found a cute light blue short dress at the sale the year before, which she wore to the Sadie Hawkins dance. This past homecoming, her dress from Foleys was worn by another girl as well. Yikes. The funny thing about the used dress sale was that the moms running it could tell you who wore the dress and to what dance. Mari, there's also a shop at Valley View Mall called Angel Wear, and I've bought beautiful Confirmation/First Communion dresses there. The shop specializes in Quincienera (sp) apparel, so the selection is varied and the dresses are usually on the modest side. Plus, they can order a dress in the size you want....See MoreProm dress where to buy
Comments (18)If she lives close to a nice shopping area, I think getting a good fit and look involves trying on dresses. California has large metro and suburban areas, but also quite isolated rural areas. Give us an idea of the general area where she lives. I found dresses for DD at department stores here in southern California and also at teen type shops....See MoreIt wouldn't be Thanksgiving dinner without....
Comments (37)Praline topped sweet potato casserole and Cajun dirty rice are a couple of items we always have at our Thanksgiving and Christmas. I prefer fried turkey but next would be a smoked turkey. We usually have potato salad too. I am not big on cranberries but I have developed a taste for the salad made with fresh berries and orange and nuts, my mother in law had made it a few times. Next Thursday we will be having our Garden Club Thanksgiving luncheon at our usual restaurant, they prepare it just for us, and it's always wonderful. We are losing so many members because of the floods I am not sure if we will have another Thanksgiving event....See Morearcy_gw
