Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Grey Bathroom Help!

I just moved into a new home and the guest bathroom has Agreeable Grey on the walls, Grey marble look tile and white toile, shower and sink. I am looking for ideas how to bring some color into the space or just use dark grey towels and a white shower curtain and call it a day!

I would add a hunged glass shower screen and then add some color with art on the wall towels in a color from the art an a nice fluffy colored bahmat

Too much gray for me, too. Also looks like the room doesn't have a window, so that adds to the grayness. The good news is that what you have is a very neutral backdrop so you have a lot of possibilities. If you really don't want to paint, use colorful towels. If you're up for painting, you can use white, or a light blue or green. Or if you like stronger colors, look at SW Sea Salt, which is very popular in bathrooms. It's blue-green - how it looks depends on the lighting. Some people see more blue, some more green. In BM, look at Quiet Moments, which is similar to Sea Salt.

I love gray owl-- but I disagree with the poster who said it has no undertones. I have it in my bedroom and LOVE it. It is fresh and clean and very relaxing but it definitely has has a blue-green tone in my room. Beekeeperswife has gray owl in her home and in her space it does read much more neutral but every bit as fresh and clean. I recommend that you do as KSWL suggests-- test your paint samples on a poster board and check them in your room with your finishes.

I had the exact same problem. I picked out the vanity I wanted but did not think about the fact that it wasn't made to sit flush against the wall. I spent a month looking for something else, but in the end we decided to go with something shorter and have it not be against the wall. But we were going from 72" to 60" which is probably not workable in your mom's situation. I did find a lot of vanities that did have flat sides and could work in a corner, if you are willing to have the countertop fabricated. They just need to not have any trim detail on the top or bottom like the one you picked out does. I would just look at the ones without the pre-made tops. Because the pre-made top will still leave you with a slight gap because of the countertop overhang. This is an example: Avanity Modero which is sold everywhere, not just at Lowe's. The cabinet we ended up buying is an Avanity Madison which won't work for you, but I assume it is of similar quality. We are pretty happy with it. The drawers and doors have soft close but I do feel like the glides in my Ikea kitchen drawers are better quality. It is very pretty and I wanted a stained wood so I am really happy with our choice. If I had been willing to go with a painted finish, I think we might have stuck with the 72" Modero.

Thank you guys. I really appreciate your help. My brain is fried and this decision has to be made immediately. gthigpen....I freaked out when I realized that the white was going to be a mistake. I cancelled it just in time but they are waiting on me to call in the color so it can be ordered. Sad for you that you didn't catch it...I hate regrets. My dd did the same thing with penny tile and white grout. A sea of white. Ugh. It's still pretty but she hates it. Gthigpen and Jackie...I see that you are using several colors of grout. I don't have that in me and I don't have a designer to advise me. I wish I did. Do you think it will be ok to choose one grout color i.e.; Silverado...and use it on all of the tile in three different bathrooms for simplicity's sake??? I have subway in two showers and in one tub surround. And the black and white on three floors and two shower floors. Here are some pics. Please advise and thank you so much for any wise words.

I have a gray marble herringbone tile floor in my bathroom. I tried nearly all of the colors that BethH recommended. None looked right. Yes, my bathroom was painted, and repainted nearly 5 times before my wonderful painter mixed his own concoction that was exactly the right color for the floor and the lighting in the room. It is an ART! And I love my bathroom wall color. Be flexible. Repaint. Again and again and again.

This is such a neutral room that you can really add most any color to it. Find a shower curtain you love then add towels that complement it. OR - Hand a piece of art you love above the shelf over the toilet. Pull colors from that for your shower curtain and towels.

I personally am a fan of monochrome so I'd probably add a simple shower curtain with dark grey trim and very dark grey towels. But, I realize most people want more pow.

For right now I would pick a colorful shower curtain that goes well with the agreeable gray, then get towels, bath mat, art/décor that works with the shower curtain.

After you have been in your home for a bit and have decided on a whole home color palette your day 1 decisions won't box you into a design decision that you have not had time to fully develop.

Since I know nothing about your taste, I can't make a guess at what types of patterns or styles you like but you can see here how many colors work with Agreeable gray.

Not much needed, depending you your style. A few accessories, white waffle weave shower curtain, white towels, wicker waste basket, vintage mat are one of many ideas...

Or something colourful...

I'm another vote for a shower curtain you really like to look at (I love the one Jennifer Hogan posted!) and then simple colored accessories to match. You won't be using it a ton, so let the neutrals help you out by staying out of the way.

Sometimes a space doesn't need color, but contrast. The drama of charcoal gray walls and a patterned shower curtain could be a great start.
