Updating our master bath. Struggling with what metal to use?

Updating our Master Bath. Counter tops will be white and cabinets will be gray. REALLY struggling with what type of metal to go with. Matte Black or brushed nickel? Please help!!!

Black is almost always contemporary

I am not a fan of brushed nickel. IMO the polished nickel or polished chrome adds a better sparkle to a bathroom.

The “struggle“ isn’t real... ;)

It’s not life or death. Look at pics of some spaces that have similar materials and design as what you are doing. Maybe that will also help you to decide.

A2, Since this vanity is only 60 inches wide and has 2 sinks, the drawers are partially under the sinks and there is not as much height for the drawer stack as there would be in a longer vanity We had the option of going with 2 deep drawers, 3 shallower ones or just a door and shelves. We opted for the shallow drawers because we could put larger things in the cabinet or the linen closet. We wanted shallow drawers for small, miscellaneous stuff. Here's what happens to be in mine this morning. Not sure what's lurking in the drawers my husband uses, so I won't even open those. And yes, that is a saduko book in the bottom drawer. Sometimes you just have to have something to do while sitting in the bathroom. We like the style of the Forte line. I like a single handle faucet but my husband wanted the 8 inch wide spread option. So I let him have his choice. Our plumber was there the day the granite people came to measure and he mistakenly told them it would be a 3 hole 4 inch spread faucet. We didn't notice that when we signed off on the template drawing. Ooops. The granite arrived with the wrong holes. We do not like the look of those narrow spread faucets at all so we were not going to live with it. The plumber offered to take the granite and buy us a new top with the correct holes drilled in it but we just opted to use the escutcheon plate and the single handle faucet. So I sort of got what I wanted. If we had originally chosen the single handle, I would not have used the escutcheon plate with it. If you ditch the built-in tub that frees up a couple of options. I think the shower still works best on the east wall. It affords you the best way to get the width and depth that can make it spacious. Although there is the small window in the southeast corner of the shower, it can be accommodated. Plus with the shower door in that location the door swing really doesn't limit traffic or placement of the other fixtures. If you ditch the tub, you could hide the toilet compartment in the old tub alcove. I'd recommend a pocket door, there are times when you'll keep the door open, times when you want it closed, and a pocket door tends to work well on a toilet compartment in that when the door is open for extended times, the swing is not a factor. I did put a freestanding slipper-type tub in blue in the southwest corner of the room. It sort of fits. One thing you can do...the toilet compartment needs to be at least 30" wide. I'm not sure how a scale drawing will turn out, in my drawing above I have the toilet compartment wall projecting about 6" more southward into the room than the wall behind the sink vanity. If you can make the toilet compartment wall flush with the wall behind the double sink vanity, maybe by even pulling the vanity south 6" and using that 6" of back wall space for shallow storage, that would give you about 9 or 10' of continuous straight wall. If you wanted, you could then extend the length of and/or slide the double vanity to the left and center it off the large window on the south wall. You could do that by leaving the shower as is and simply making the vanity counter longer, or you could do a combination, make the shower wider, say 4' wide, and extend and move the vanity to the left. The more you bring the vanity to the left though, the more the vanity countertop will eventually impinge with the blue freestanding tub location. And with traffic entering the bathroom through the door. So if you ditch the tub altogether, it's something to consider.

Agree with Nancy, it is difficult to answer without specifics. Are you open to using some of the space in that huge closet to expand the bathroom? Narrowing the closet will give you (perhaps built in) storage across from the vanity. You could also expand the shower into the closet space (& perhaps move - by a few feet- the closet that currently abuts the shower if you want the shower both deeper & wider).

I prefer chrome in bathrooms, timeless and everything matches drains, faucets, flush handles, etc. Unless your room is huge and a real design masterpiece.

Chrome is "forever" when it comes to bath fittings. It's the easy maintenance, been around forever.

Matte black is a bit more trendy, can read industrial, farm house casual, modern, rustic, depending other selections. a chameleon of sorts,

Polished nickel is the WARM, greener "chrome" , Spots a lot more, is definitely higher maintenance, doesn't mix well with another metal.

Satin nickel - Has also been around forever, is probably the LEAST favorite of late for baths. I probably would not use it in a brand new bath.

Warm brass and golden tones -- elegant,

Oil rubbed Bronze- Much faded in popularity, generally very traditional in styles, good if you're country and rustic.

No more than two finishes in a bath is wise or necessary : ) considering fittings, hardware, accessories

I’ll be redoing a small refresh in my Master Bath and Kitchen. Both will have either chrome or polished nickel. I like the little sparkle, as Beverly says.

IMO chrome it is timeless and a master bath is a private space like the bedroom and can be very different than the rest of the house for even hardware.

The other advantage to chrome is that it's the least expensive finish. When outfitting a primary bathroom the savings can add up. I did want some sparkle as others have said, and the cost savings was a bonus when we remodeled two years ago. That bathroom has gray and white tile. DH still likes brushed nickel, though, so that's what's in the secondary bathroom (all white tile). I think gold and black are trendy, but I do like black in some circumstances.
