roll call!
Comments (60)ok - late as usual, I'll take this back to the original thread, sort of. Carleen - live in Australia about 20 minutes away from Arthur where the weather is perrrfect at the moment apart from the fact that we still need more rain! I've been coming here for about 3-4 years & it's the main reason I have any orchids alive. I used to lurk more often than post, especially on this side to get a laugh. Things seemed to go pretty quiet though, plus I moved house (again), went overseas (Italy - yum) and got sick in pretty much that order so I haven't been near this place for about 4 months or more even. I also have a new boss at work which has made things somewhat unsettled - you know, the "I'm the new guy with all the big ideas which I have to put into action immediately to justify the squillion dollars I'm being paid" syndrome. Hey Arthur - yes I'm alive!! I've also changed internet providers & lost your email address. If I email the WSOS will it get to you? I intend to visit the January meeting - my Stanhopea has 4 spikes which should be open by then - if they haven't actually come & gone!! Pet peeve? Politically correct Scrooges who won't allow things like Christmas decorations & carols for fear of upsetting those religions who don't celebrate Christmas. Why can't we all just grow up & get along? Merry Christmas everyone!...See MoreCalling all arborists and foresters! Help save my oak tree.
Comments (16)Like I said, the key question is to what degree the planned work will damage the root system. If all of the main roots on one side of the trunk will be cut near the stem, then the trees should be considered hazardous, full stop. However, there are many times when road resurfacing doesn't involve that, and there may be very little direct root damage even if they are grinding/milling down the existing pavement. Like the picture below - the main roots of that tree probably are not within the layer being removed. So, I think that before you start to launch a campaign to save the trees, you need more information about the construction. If the plan involves serious root disturbance, maybe it could be changed to something less destructive. If not, then there's room for judgement (with consultation from a city arborist or other specialist). I love big street trees as much as anyone, both for their beauty and the many other benefits they provide. But part of maintaining a healthy urban canopy is managing risk and removing hazard trees. I get a few calls per year from lawyers involved in cases where a tree has fallen, killing or harming people or damaging property. A main question in resulting lawsuits is whether those responsible for the tree should reasonably have been aware that the tree was unsound before it fell....See MoreNew ARS Committee - The Good Earth Rose Committee

Comments (27)You will get aprox 50 Square per gallon of Hydro ban if you apply it over Green EBoard or cement Board on the rough side. You will get closer to 60 Square feet of coverage over the smooth side of Green EBoard. Can you measure out the exact square footage and what you plan for a shower base and the walls. The Kerdi Drain is an excellent product but a bit on the pricey side at $130.00 Nobel makes a sweet little adapater piece for a regular drain $12.00 that can give you a liquid tie in point. Contact Laticrete for approval - I spoke just two days back to Eric at Nobel head office and he told me about this greta Nobel product. I have some of those en route as well. Eric is a great guy - email him and he can tell you all about it. I wish he chimed in here from time to time... Eric? Where are you? sales@noblecompany.com JW Here is a link that might be useful: Nobel products for your bathroom renovation...See MoreOutsidePlaying
