Will you add a pic of the left side of room where the keyboard is? For the windows above sofa - is there a reason blinds like what’s on all the other windows cannot be hung?

It might be time to take a completely different view of your room. You have elements that just don't play nice together.

You haven't presented photos of the total room so I don't know what the possibilities might be, but it could be possible to place your TV below the window and rearrange the seating.

Please pardon the mess! I have been rearranging everything. I’m on a tight budget, so I’m trying to work with what I have.

This is the left side of the it has an awkward keyboard there for now, but I’m hoping to put a piano there someday soon.

This is the whole space from the entrance. I know it needs a lot of work. Again please excuse the mess. I have three young children and I need to make it functional for them, and I like to keep it minimal for the same reason.

I really like Beverly’s 2nd arrangement for your room.

Assuming you are using your current arrangement, pull the window wall sofa away from the wall by about 12". Place a console table behind it and arrange with a lamp, plant, stacks of books and perhaps a few low hung images on the wall. Look for a used console table on FB marketplace or craiglist. Or fashion one out of cinder blocks and a board and then cover with some fabric.

Try it - live with it a couple days to see how it flows. You can always make small tweaks or put things back the way they were. Thing about trying new things is it often opens the imagination to even more ways to change things up! I like changing things around - gives me new perspective! 😊

You have some nice things and a nice space, you just need some finishing touches. I would add some end tables and larger lamps. They'll provide flattering light and add shape and texture to the middle of the room.

The colors in your rug and furniture aren't playing nice at the moment, but adding some charcoal and tan pillows to the furniture will help blend the colors.

I think once you find nicer replacements for your temporary window treatments, that will help as well.

Get the layout right, eliminate all the stuff that doesn't belong in this room, (any change the office can find a new home?) move the furniture around to see how you like it and then come back and begin to discuss accessories.

Can you find a new home for that rug? it doesn't work with your seating.

I could find a new home for the office, but there would be a lot of dead space that I’d have to figure out what to do with. What would you suggest? Also, do you think I need a new rug, or no rug at all?

❤️ A shuttered window! and art art art — you have GALLERY wallspace! Jealous! I have an all-windows colonial in a humid, overcast climate. Large blocks of gray would rule my days if i did not have pops of bright color. It’s like a Basquiat exploded in here. But walllspace means beautiful, subtle paint color! you can do a color wash for 10 dollars (acrylic, yep!), lots of framed art/photos, and for the plants, Walmart should have Dracenas (another 10 dollars) which will add the leafy life shown in Kendrah’s pic! Love her ideas here!

May I suggest simple board frames surrounding all the windows/entrances? Any size shutters will do, and you can even make them! Distress all the wood for a relaxed Coastal feel. Make a creative coffee table, some doors for your organizer cabinet (in warm color? Pick up the darker fuschia in the rug? Very chic color, matches your luxe textures) and chunky weave white pillows (another easy make — stitch or weave in thick and fuzzy white textured acrylc yarn into a white cotton blanket. Either cut the same fabric into varying shapes/sizes, , or do a variety of fabric patterns in same color)! You have lovely choices, just tie up the ends, and have fun with it! ❤️

I like your rug and think it works with your colors. Being on a budget, your rug is the last thing I'd change. You can bring in pillow colors or a throw that helps tie it in even more.

Playing around with furniture arrangement is free and a great way to get a new looking space. If you have another place for your office, why not put that elsewhere and then move your keyboard to the current desk area. I'd place the key board under the double windows. Then on the wall to the right of the windows place the dark wood bookshelf that is currently to the right of your TV.

What is in the white set of bins to the left of the kitchen doorway? Can you move those elsewhere? It might be nice to not have furniture on that tiny wall and just hang a small picture or a small something there instead.

If you can't move furniture, I like the picture that Lyn Nielson showed. I've done a similar thing with frames from Ikea and calendar images. It's important to get such an arrangement spaced and lined up correctly, but the price is right.

Kendrah, the bins are just filled with toys. I’m trying to balance the room because I feel like it was really heavenly on the side that has the offfice space and the smaller sofa. Plus I needed a place to put the toys too.

Where does your kid(s) play with the toys most often? I wonder if the space where your office is now could be a fun play area of the room? Maybe they are young and you want your eyes more on them. But kids often love feeling like they have their own little section of a room.
