Looking forward to new David Austin's roses
Comments (24)What I like about Olivia Rose is : --she is very disease-resistant. Many of Austin's earlier pinks were not. --her blooms have a lovely shape and appealing pastel color and good fragrance--very different than many of the earlier short pinks which may have 1 or 2 of those traits, but often do not have all 3. --she is a smaller bush than many Austins--which is what I need since I am nearly out of space. Therefore, I think Olivia Rose fits in well with my needs and expectations. But until I get one and actually grow it in my garden, I'm not going to know for sure, am I! LOL. David Austin--get me my rose! Kate...See MoreDavid Austin Roses that Look Good Together?
Comments (9)I don't have any Austins actually together--instead they are scattered all over my backyard in beds with other kinds of roses and other flowers and bushes. However, I do have Munstead Wood not too far from the climbing Austin The Wedgewood--its light pink looks very nice in contrast to MW's dark velvet red-purple. And on the other side of MW, not too far away, are a couple Molineux bushes--another excellent contrast (golden/yellow/apricot vs dark velvet red-purple). I also have Lady of Shalott planted about 10 feet behind the rose bed in front of it. Since the Lady grows 6ft tall (or taller), I can usually easily see her above the bright reds like Double Delight and Braveheart in the bed in front of her. It surprises me sometimes how wonderfully well that combination shines out from afar when I come out of my back door. My various pink Austins (medium to very light pink) all blend in well with whatever combination of flowers I plant them among. Hope that helps. Comments (12)mustbnuts - I think those are beautiful! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say. You reminded me that when I have friends smell this rose, some say that it doesn't have a lot of fragrance, which I find surprising because I can smell it from where I am standing while they are sniffing it with their nose buried in the bloom. So different people might experience it differently. Some of my first blooms 4 years ago: In the heat today (close to 100). May 29 this year: May 9th this year they were little pink cabbages that didn't open up more than this. This is typical for the first flush for me. So as dianela says, the form varies a lot. Even the color varies quite a bit....See MoreWhich David Austin rose would look best?
Comments (37)Get a rose you're in love with.... if you're having a whole hedge of it, then you've got to love it.. ...my choice here would be without question..... 'Scarborough Fair'.. in that colour range.... I'm near the sea and it withstands the elements.... it blooms constantly, in poor soil, drought conditions and heat - such as we get it here on occasions... 3.5 tall by 4 foot wide... no issues... it should be better known really.... not double, but semi double... musk scented with hips in winter.. I think it's good for zone 5... I took this photo in blazing 100 deg .. which I don't get too much.. ...this is a late evening pic... just before dark... ...you will get that I totally love this rose... of course no one else has to like it.. but... ...hope you find something you like just as much.......See Moreerasmus_gw
