Put the big comfy looking chair somewhere that a person would want to sit a while. Place one dining room chair on each side of the credenza. When I come to dinner do not sit me facing that huge clock that would constantly tell me time is passing & I should be going home already.

Prepare for a lot of unasked for advice! If you want the chairs in this room, I might swtch out the tv console for the dining room one (if it would fit between the windows - I might even try it if it encroaches a bit on the windows). Is there any other wall in the living room for the TV? The gray console is a better size for under the TV and the blue one would give you room to put 2 chairs and the console in the dining room.

I agree about the clock. Your home is so pretty but a nice large piece of art there would look much better and add a lot to your space.

Well that was my best suggestion to try with the smaller console so they could flank it. Maybe someone will have other ideas. Good luck!

It's always hard to tell in a photo, but the chair doesn't seem to be the right scale to go beside the credenza. One thought would be to move the credenza to behind the sofa and then place a small table under the clock flanked by your two chairs to create a little sitting area.

You’re asking for thoughts on placement of 2 chairs along that wall which is what’s been offered.. What’s purpose of the chair in each corner - as in - under what conditions will a person be sittting in each chair? Is the dining table centered in the room? It’s hard to tell from angle of pic. Will the credenza fit behind sofa & facing into the dining area? A lamp placed on it would provide reading light for sofa & more light for dining area. Looks like there’s enough room on right side to move table towards kitchen. Moving credenza away from clock wall would open up space to place another chair with a table between to create a proper seating area..The one chair is too close to corner - looks sort of shoehorned into it.

Unfortunately the credeza is too tall to go behind the couch you see the back of it by two inches and it’s unfinished wood…

What is the purpose of the chairs? Chairs you already have and need a home for? Or are they needed for additional seating in the LR when guests are over? Put them close to the console with the backs against the wall. (They seem a little big for that though.)

From the pictures, they look too low to be comfortable for additional table seating. If that is what they are needed for, I would try to get ones that match your current ones and place them next to the console when not in use.

If they are a new purchase just to be put on either side, I would skip them all together. They wouldn’t be close enough for a place to sit and talk.

Or make a reading nook with one - pull it out from the corner a bit, add a floor lamp, and a throw. The dining area wouldn’t be the most conventional spot for a reading nook but in open concept, I think it could work.

We had the chairs as a sitting area in front of of the stair case as pictured below but we decided to center the table in the room now… so the chairs won’t fit there anymore..
would it be weird to off center the credenza and put the two chairs together with a table on the wall with the clock?

The chairs are a little squatty in size so it wouldn’t work as extra DR chairs more just accent chairs..

Is the grey console taller than the back if the couch?

It is too bad you are unwilling to move the console and the clock. The green piece is a t v console and it too small and too short to be used as a buffet. The clock belongs in the kitchen area, and is not warm enough to make the space company special.

It’s not that I am unwilling to move the console.. it doesn’t fit where you are suggesting to move it.

I have to say I liked your original layout with the chairs by the stairs and the table off centre. From the part I could see in the picture it was very nice and airy. It's too bad the cabinet was taller than the sofa.

Is the console same or lower height than the stair railing where the chairs were? If yes, how about putting console against the stairs - finish the back with a thin piece of something - painted white to match stair railings, turn the table back to width wise position in space & put the 2 chairs & small table on wall with clock - off center on wall - maybe closer to kitchen - so that everything isn’t perfectly lined up.
