Is Sweet Juliet worth keeping?
Comments (27)Oh! Not such good news! One of the main reasons I bought her was because one of my friends is a wedding florist. She occasionally raids my garden when a supplier doesn’t come through at the last minute. I think she’s always referred to one of her most popular bridal roses as “SWEET Juliet”. I wonder why she was calling it that instead of “Juliet”. It wasn’t even on my radar, until she began raving about it. I figured it HAD to be a good cut flower. Shucks! Thanks for the heads up. No prominent spot for this one! Lisa...See MoreDA Roses Part 3
Comments (16)Thanks again everybody! Lesley, That INGENIOUS MR FAIRCHILD is not a great rose. I've had it for a few yrs, and I think that's the first bloom I've had on it. Nothing spectacular, that's for sure. Oh Sandra, I feel for you. It's awful when your beloved animals get old and then pass away. It's almost as bad as losing a child. And Maryl, I didn't post anything when Katie passed. It was a long sad journey to see her suffer, and we probably should've had her put down earlier. But we just couldn't do it. We did take her in about a week before, but we just felt she wasn't quite ready to go. She was petrified and looked at us so desperately, like she wanted to go home. So we took her home and kept her warm and loved until one day when my husband got home late and I was at the store... he said she came walking up from the side of the house, went in and laid down behind his chair where she always slept... and just expired. It was like she waited for him to come home. I got home moments later. He and the boys buried her in the dark. It was sad, but sort of a relief. He says no more dogs. He can't handle it again he said. Oh and SUMMER SONG is not that new, Maryl. It came out a few yrs ago, but for awhile was only available thru the Canadian suppliers. I believe it's now available thru David Austin USA. It's probably my favorite of the DA's, mainly because the color is so out of the norm for his roses. You really should get it!! Thanks Ingrid. I will try to post more yard shots in the coming season. My backyard, where most of the DA's are is sort of a mess tho. We're sloppy gardeners!...See MoreMy Palatine roses have shipped!
Comments (25)My Palatine DAs arrived this morning, and are soaking. They are a LOT smaller than the usual Palatine monsters, but look good! Kristine, K&M Roses will be introducing Dave Bang's roses this summer or fall, not sure when exactly!! Dave sent a lot to For Love of Roses a few yrs ago, but they recently closed up and are in foreclosure right now, so DO NOT TRY ORDERING FROM THEM... you will not get your roses or your money back! A lot of people have lost out on roses and their money! It's a sad situation. But Jim at K&M Roses has already been busy grafting and rooting Dave's roses. He's going to be inundated with orders, so It will be awhile probably before all of us can get them!! Gonna be fun in the pursuit tho!!...See MoreIs it true that orange-ish roses are less favored? Comments (158)I think she means the original E. Boerner Aloha that was used extensively by David Austin in his early breeding efforts. This rose is classified as a large flowered climber and (for me) would never make a natural looking bush shrub. It can naturally grow bolt upright so I'm finding it's best grown as a short climber training its canes while young and pliable. Currently its wrapping itself around a make-shift tuteur, but since planting in the ground last year, is reaching onward and upward. I'll need to make a new much taller obelisk. While I feel intuitively that Ingrid is a delicate flower with hands to match, (I also recall them being very pretty and well-kept from a past picture), Aloha is a huge powderpuff of a rose and almost always in bloom. I'm adding a second this summer. Aloha Hawaii is on my 'someday soon' list. FreedomGardens also grows it so it should be hardy in your zone, flowers, but I'm not sure how much it will climb. :-)) P.S. A couple of the entries on HMF are duplicates using alternate names and the breeders' codes....See MoreDiane Brakefield
