Need help w/ paint in open floor plan
Comments (5)What a treasure you found. How fun to decorate and make it your own. Lovley place. I have a double story open floor plan house and I use a color called Baked Scone by Behr. It is a very light color but it is perfect. It has a creamy yellow base to the hue. Image the soft crust opening to a flaky baked scone and there you have it. I find it goes with everything. I have changed the color in my kitchen which opens to the Baked scone about 7 times and each color from red, blue, royal, yellow, sage green, brown caramel.. (in fact I need to repaint it again but that is another post.) Baked Scone by Behr Your idea of Whole Wheat SW is perfect as it too goes with everything. See here below Whole Wheat next to Antique White. Comments (2)I don't really like either of the samples you showed. That gray is going to make the space really dark and to me, it looks like battleship gray. This just might be one of those spaces where you are going to have to spend the money on a dozen (or more) sample paint pots or quarts. Sometimes there is no easy way around finding the "perfect" color....See Moreneed help picking paint colors for island/open floor plan
Comments (2)I think what Sophie means is that the gray black and white trend is on its deathbed and you might want to think about using some color, or at least some neutrals that won’t scream 20-teens in five years when they are out of style. There are a LOT of posts on these forums from people who chose gray finishes and then are surprised to find that their rooms feel dark, or colorless, or boring, or cold, and a lot of colors just don’t work with them. Once the cabinets, counters, and floors are in, you’re kind of stuck with them for a long time. Honestly, some of the photos posted for help, I would have sworn were black and white photos That said, if you have looked at a lot of kitchens and you love gray on gray and are not just seduced by the images we’ve all be bombarded with over the past few years, go for it. I haven’t personally used Simply White but I’ve heard it described as a warm white, and also as a stark white. Depends on your light and the colors around it. Grays also come in a lot of different flavors, and can be blue-ish, greenish, taupe-ish, so how they work with any particular greige (also variable) depends on which colors you’re comparing. Sorry if this is really vague. Pick a few greige and grays that you think you’d like to work with and compare painted swatches (on poster board at least a foot square) side by side. In natural light and artificial light at different times of day. Post photos of the comparisons for opinions. Also include photos of your counter, backsplash, and floor materials. You can always repaint the walls if they’re not working, but once your island is painted, not so easy to fix. Choose paint last....See MoreOpen floor plan paint help needed
Comments (4)Dining area: Paint the wall with the arch the same white as the trim and wainscoting. This way you can paint the walls above the wainscoting any color you want. I wouldn't paint the wall behind the kitchen, as it nicely 'grounds' your kitchen in there. But you could add some color by painting the window wall behind breakfast area (and maybe the large lounge). Preferably add color with fabric and decoration. I think the current colors are kinda bland, but well chosen. (And two islands? Really?)...See MoreGina Restivo
