Accent wall - advice needed
Comments (19)Hey Teapot...I like tea as well. I think the wall should be a paint colour that goes with the living room. But you could do something great with fabric that would really have panache. What about choosing a great fabric design and putting a cover on the piano bench and chair seat? You could carry it into the living room with an accent pillow. I included a link with a wood dining chair with a slip cover. But you could use any fabric that had pizazz - a cotton or linen with a design - and was in keeping with your décor, and a tie on cushion on the chair beside it. And if that chair is part of a dining set then carry it into the dining room. Sometimes the decorator Sarah Richardson would use one fabric on a bench, and a coordinating fabric on the cushion with the first fabric as a piping... Then maybe paint out the frame of your art over the piano in a coordinating colour, and something on top of the piano that is fun like several different coloured glass bottles... Anyhow, hope this helps and let us know what you do please? Radley And, if anyone could tell me how to put a picture in a garden web post that would be great!!!! Here is a link that might be useful: upholstered chair...See MoreWood accent wall/mantle advice
Comments (26)Katie, many people have spent the time to give you help here. many suggestions, pictures, even advising you on decor on the mantle. did you happen to see any of that? talk about being kind? how about, "hey, for those of you that had constructive criticism and took the time to offer suggestions, thank you". That's being kind. Mother would be proud. Remember, if you post something on a public forum and ask for advice, you have to take the good w/the bad. You have eight different people on here that don't think it looks quite right. that should tell you something. But as long you like it, great! we were just advising you on how it would look better. be thankful for the free advice you got. You obviously didn't get thicker skin from Santa this year....See MoreNeed advice >> Shiplap accent wall in den?
Comments (9)I don't really think shiplap would give you much bang for the buck in this space. If it were mine, I'd focus on revamping the artwork on the walls, replacing the mirrors with something that holds personal meaning, and maybe doing something more dramatic with artwork where you have the map. Something that reminds you of favorite travels or places, perhaps? Enlarged personal photos or big original canvas paintings?...See MoreAdvice for picking the wall color adjacent to an accent wall
Comments (7)@Judy Graham It is vaulted and I think would look cool with an accent wall (doing this for myself, not resale, but still want it to look nice). The rest of the house will be pretty neutral so I really want to do a fun pop in here and I just love the color and other inspiration photos I have found. Carpet will be replaced soon with a lighter neutral. Technically not finalizing paints til it's in but trying to be efficient. I am really not questioning the teal though. I know it is not everyone's cup of tea but I just bought this so have many years to go in this house and one wall of dramatic paint can be repainted if future owners don't like it. I attached a photo in a different comment....See Moretracefloyd
