However, the single best thing you can do is get lots organic matter into that Iowa soil because without that OM your soil will simply slide back together again. In the meantime set your mower at the highest level you can and mow so that you do not cut off more than 1/3 of the grass blade at any time. The more grass blade exposed to the sun the more nutrients that grass blade can manufacture to feed the crown that will then send out more grass to fill in the empty places, eventually. Mulch mow too, recycling the grass clippings right where they came from will supply your turf with 1/2 the annual nutrient requirement as well as supply a bit of mulch to help conserve soil moisture and help keep the soil cooler which will keep the grass happier and somewhat less likely to go dormant this summer. However the key is to get organic matter into your soil....See MoreHow can i make my room look better?

And you do seem to have too much furniture in the room at this point. I think that I would, first, strip all of your wall paper and prime your walls. Then I would fin a traditional oriental style rug for your room and center it. From the rug, I would choose a complimentary color for your walls. Then....I would begin to build your room. The perfect location for your “library area” would be in the nook where your sofa currently resides. The entire wall could be book shelves. What kind of storage does your room require? (There is no closet.). Do you need the little glass cases in the corner? If you need a dresser for guests, the large dresser will work. You could place the tv on it or hang it on the wall above it. Your sofa needs end tables with reading lamps on it. I think the sofa would look best on the top wall in the room. Centered. The TV on the left wall as you enter it. And the room could use a chair in which to sit and read, too. Located close to the window with the radiator on the right, and in front of your library wall. This is a one step at a time project. But I would start with finding a lovely rug for your room that works with the sofa. Good luck!...See MoreHow can I make water stained cabinets look better?
Comments (10)If the goal it just to make the cabinets look better for showing a home, products like Old English are fine- new owners are likely to replace cabinets or refinish. I also have had luck with pure nut oil (in the cooking aisle). Almond for lighter wood, walnut for darker or a combo for medium color. I remember years ago, the fix for a scratch on wood was to cut a nut piece, like walnut or pecan and rub it over the scratch. The oil in the nuts has something in it that stains the raw wood. If you can find unrefined oil, that would be better. I see some almond oil products on amazon for refreshing wood....See MoreHow can I make this look better
Comments (58)My newest dillema! I cannot afford to replace my countertops, backsplash or floors at the moment so I am forced to work with the ugliness. i need to choose a color to paint my cabinets. I want something in the cream family, and these are two colors that i am contemplating. They are both Sherwin Williams and the the left side is called Steamed Milk, the right side is called Creamy. In the top photo i have Steamed Milk on the bottom half of the cabinet, and Creamy on the top. I plan on changing the hardware out to a champagne gold knob and possibly pull for the drawers when I am finished. What do you think?...See MoreHU-187528210
