I just got a call from the granite guy and he way upped the charge on black galaxy...which ultimately made my decision very easy for me. I thought to myself " well...boxerpups had some really good points about tan brown... More warm,etc....". And now you come back with these pics that make me want to cry?!?? Oh I'm just teasing. But seriously though, the BG is too expensive for me so TB it is. Though I don't think that last pic is black galaxy. It looks more like tan brown. I can't wait to post my finished pics. It took me a while to adjust to the idea of knobs but I like egg shape the most. I'm liking the Weslock Julienne in ORB. live wire oak- Like happyafwife, in our area, ORB hasn't faded. It is used more often than not in new construction in the most upscale neighborhoods. That is why we felt 'safe' using it. I love the look of stained woodwork, too. But my old woodwork wasn't stained - it was a medium brown painted/glazed finish from the mid-1960's. After ~45 years and three owners, it looked terrible and needed to have something done. To strip and stain it all would have been cost prohibitive. So we opted to paint everything (cabinets, doors, baseboards, etc)a soft white. It makes the house look so much lighter and larger - I can't believe that too many potential buyers will be turned off by it.

Sorry for the confusion....I'm just a guy trying to build his first home and suck at interior design skills. Yes....the front door is a craftsman style door to match the exterior (see image below...stone work still needs to go up in that pic). I live in northern PA so we don't have a lot of modern / contemporary looking exteriors like they do on the west coast. The craftsman style exterior gives me that look of clean simple lines but still fits into place with the other houses in the area. Yes....the staircase is traditional. I would have like something more like the staircase image below but it was custom built. My builder needed the staircase selected the very day he mentioned the word staircase to me. At that moment, I was limited to what the supply house had available to them. I like the looks of unique things....the mixture of metal and wood such as the table pictured below. I guess, I am trying to mix some elements of various "styles" and still make it look like a unique and cohesive space.
