I have laundry closets, one on the bottom floor and one on the top. The top is a stackable so there's no room for decor. I wish I'd have made that room just a tad bigger so I didn't have to keep laundry soap in the adjoining bathroom (it's in a huge glass container though and everyone thinks I dropped a fortune on bath salts to fill it heh heh). If I ever have a real room dedicated to laundry I'd do antique butlers pantry as my look. Painted cabinets, marble counters, laundry machines hidden behind cabinets, beautiful lighting, a huge fold and storge area....heaven in the laundry....and I'd like a full time maid to stand there and deal with the laundry as well...as long as we're dreaming! My lower closet is in our family room. I painted the walls in a soft cream and the cabinets in a color called patince (a very soft yellow). It has my giraffe door handles for access, and the doors are painted in metalic chalkboard.

I called Hookset on TUesday and they said they were sold out so it doesn't seem like the online locater is up to date with what's actually in stores. I called the Target in Kansas near my brother and they have it, but it's not on clearance...actually it's more expensive then online! As far as furniture placment, We went through all this already and figured the current set-up is the best. There is a heating unit under the window and we'll lose all storage space by flipping the couch to the other wall.And we discussed flat screen on the wall, but again I need storage, so that wouldn't help the sitution. Our house is very small and this is the only room the kids can play in. The bedrooms are upstairs and even if they were big enough (they aren't) I don't wnat them up there getting into trouble while I'm downstairs cooking dinner. (they're 2 and 3). I work all day so it's nice to be able to interact with them in the living room and be able to run back into the kitchen every few minutes to check on dinner.

okay..so I see some preference for muted yet strong colors, reds, blues..tribal rugs(great choice for the room btw)..I think though the room is too strong of a rustic character to pull off too many valances-and swags- type of curtains, as on your first inspiration pic. You also love industrial elements-so don't sway too cute. You need the right balance between everything you love. You can definitely though make window treatments feel cozy with the right type of fabric. I'd choose linen or cotton, and depending on other elements, I can have them solids, florals, plaid.. Can you do the following exercise? Take out all the fabrics currently in the room. (well leave the curtains..I imagine it's too much for an exercize lol) .Including the rug. Temporarily. Give yourself several hours just looking at it while it's emptier. Look at it from different angles. Sit on the floor if you wish)) Changing physical position in space helps mental process. Why-I've no idea. I just know it's helpful. It might be that at first you'll feel or see nothing much Then it'll change though. You'll have some vague or more definite ideas ..say, you'd envision the rug and decide to start from that. Or you'd want to rearrange something on the walls-and it'd give you ideas about window treatments. Or you'll picture some pillow you saw and loved. It is overwhelming, as every new thing we are to start. So make it a bit less overwhelming. One step at a time. Your first step-listening to the room and yourself. I can make specific suggestions of course. But I think you'll enjoy the process more this way. I think you'll love creating. It is creating after all, to a degree. You'll get that spark, that starting moment. Then it'll be many ideas. More than you want)) Then it'll be narrowing them down:)

"oak trim clashes with everything". why is painting it now not an option?? it's the one thing in that room that doesn't go w/anything. painting all that baseboard white, as well as the trim, will look so much better. The staircase could also look 10X better with either a new stain, or paint it black. at the very least, do the risers in black or white. Using your rug as a jump-off point, here are some other decor elements. you could use your camel leather sofa, ottoman, and just add some other black/white elements. Gravity is a purple gray. you need to find more of a neutral gray shade that works w/the flooring. (but you'll still need to paint out that trim! ) . Crushed ice is a nice gray, but very light. I love these color combos in your room. they would look great w/your wood ceiling and white trim if you feel you have to have orange trim work and baseboards, try a warmer gray in this color family. bring in some other warmer shades, as long as they work w/the gray floor. also, if you want to keep all the wood along the stairs, it might be worth stripping off the clear coat finish. over time, the clear coat yellows, giving you the orange tint. if you took it back to raw wood and finished it in the same tone of your ceiling, it might look a bit better. but I'd still do the baseboards in white. Here they are against a polished concrete. so much better looking. notice the oak in more of a natural finish. your could look like this.
