What to put on these walls?!

The walls just look so empty and bare but struggling to figure out what to put on them. bookcases just seem too big and bulky but hate how bare and empty they look

Just a comment…why is there no finish trim around the opening? On the dining side, put a buffet table, for serving, two lamps and some mirrors. If you don’t need the fan, add a chandelier. Visually it will fill up some of the dead air space and give you more light. Other wall try book cases..I. like this style with the open back.

Very pretty fireplace! I'm sure this is a cozy space in that Oregonian setting. I can't tell what the artwork is on the one side, but I think you're on the right track with size/scale. You might consider seeking out a local photographer whose work is representative of the natural beauty of your area and hanging his/her work on either side. I wouldn't necessarily focus on adding a lot of color, though, but would create an organic, natural feel in the room, with an emphasis on coziness. You're likely to receive "anti-TV over the fireplace" comments, so brace yourself. ;-) I think your TV is just fine where it is. We enjoy ours over our fireplace too.

I don’t suppose you’re looking to wall-mount the TV or use that TV in another room and wall-mount a larger TV here? Since that’s a new TV stand you can still use it to store the associated equipment and wiring unless you could also use it in another room and go with a floating media console here as well. Other options might include built-ins on either side for books or decorative pieces. If you opt to put artwork on either side, I wonder if it might be distracting when you’re watching TV.

Tape up a piece of newspaper in a 24 by 36 inch (poster) size where you want the art to go. Do you want bigger or smaller once you see it?

I would recommend a large piece of art on each side of the opening (you can DIY), and 2 or 3 pieces over the sofa. Or you could flank the opening with a small cabinet on each side with floating shelves above. One could act as a bar.

Is that the entry door around corner in right side of 1st & 3rd pictures? I think if a piece of furniture is placed there it might be too crowded to place another piece at right side of bar counter. But, the inside corner on the left seems a great place for a cabinet almost the width of the space & art above. I wouldn’t have a tall cabinet there. I think it would make the left bar stool feel boxed in. Are you planning to hang art above the sofa? That’s what looks bare IMO. You’re not asking about area rug but I suggest pulling it away from wall behind sofa a bit so more of it shows & the nice red swivel chair sits more on it. Looks like there’s enough room behind the bar stools to do that.

How about a tree on one side and a fun colorful piece of art on the other? Window panels would look nice too.

Either a large plant as okibujp suggests or a shallow console table on hairpin legs with interesting thrift shop mirror above. (Etsy is a good source for custom tables like this that aren't too pricey.)

This one is $70 on Etsy. Shelf and hairpin legs customizable to size.

On right side, a great art poster in colors and subject you like.

P.S. Keep your countertop completely clear 24/7--more important than decorating side walls.
