any online citrus website ship to TX?
Comments (39)I don't know that the Seedless Kishu is less cold tolerant than other mandarins, bamboo (although I see Britleaf seems to think so, ask them where they got their information from, this is news to me). Most mandarins are up there, as far as the line up for citrus cold tolerant varieties as a whole. So, we may be splitting hairs here, a degree or two. Certainly not like a lime tree, if that's what you're worried about. Of course, any of the Satsumas are very cold tolerant, and believe it or not, the Gold Nugget actually faired better with some wicked cold weather than the Satsumas for UC Riverside. I'd risk it, personally. As far as "must haves", well certainly I would consider a Cara Cara navel orange. Very sweet, sweeter than it's parent, the Washington navel, and the flesh is a very pretty pink. Looks really nice in a salad, and of course, excellent for eating out of hand. The Tarocco blood orange for sure. Might not be as pigmented as a Moro, but it's sweeter. And, if you can find a Breem Tarocco, it WILL be as pigmented. You get enough temp variation to make this a "must have" in your collection. Consider a Flame grapefruit. I don't see that they have a Cocktail (or I think it's probably the same as your 'Golden'). I happen to love my Cocktail grapefruit (although it's not a grapefruit, but a pummelo/mandarin hybrid, as most likely is the 'Golden'). I love a sweeter grapefruit, but still having the characteristics of a grapefruit, but without all the wincing. Lastly, a Meiwa kumquat is a great kumquat. Fatter, bigger and sweeter than all other kumquats. Very prolific producers, and the tree itself has a nice form. And they're very cold tolerant. I see lots of mandarins, so I think the above are good choices to round things out a bit for you. Patty S....See MoreWhere is the best online place to buy peonies?

Comments (9)Ask bay laurel not to root trim. I've bought a lot of plants from, and have been happy except for the last pear, root was trimmed to almost nothing. Doans is probably low on inventory right now, but will receive their Dave Wilson trees next feb or so. Bay laurel, doans, raintree all resell Dave Wilson trees. Doans also has le Cooke trees, which are sometimes better. Womack is normally home grown trees, which I really like--but I suspect they resell a few Dave Wilson trees also If you're going to buy out of state, look at raintree, one green world, isons, just fruits and exotics--but be sure to pick the right rootstock for dallas. Anything from doans is ok here. Most everything from womacks is ok, but being mail order they sell throughout the country, so be sure to ask them if it'll grow in dallas....See Morewhich variety best for TX gulf coast area?
Comments (1)Your gulf coast is similar to my subtropical Florida - u wanna purchase tubers mail order. Check out the Georgia dahlia society ! they have a page u will be directed to that lists all heat tolerant varieties- also, investing in a shade cloth will help too or some afternoon shade. I've been gardening a while but this yr I went crazy & bought & planted 42 tubers from personal sellers on eBay- Amazon & Etsy & also from swan island dahlias & a few other reputable dahlia nurseries. This is my first yr of "seriously" growing dahlias. So far kelvin floodlight, Steve meggos- kids climax - zorro & a few others are growing faster than the other heat tolerant ines but plz stick to heat tolerant varieties- it'll give u a better chance of success. My friend lives in Houston & planted a bunch of tubers last yr & had some over winter & grow well into the summer but they're finally taking a beating from heat & insects. If u don't hurry it not going to have much time for fall blooms bc they take 3 mo to flower from planting the tuber. Also, online there's a couple websites that list other heat tolerant varieties that aren't on the GA dahlia list. Good luck ! :)...See Moreaelem
