Paint Design Dilemma Exterior

white color choice for exterior trim

I am getting nowhere trying to decide a good color white for my trim that will go with both the greyish roof (colonial slate but has some tan mixed in so not quite as grey as it looks here) and the ugly orangish tan bricks. My door is temporairly painted pure white but i may change that as it appears a bit bright... Also need suggestions for shutter color. I know most would just do with a shade of black but that is so overdone would like to consider another color, maybe a dark muted charcoal mossy green or really anything other than black. I have been considering sw oyster, snowbound and maybe oxford white. Any ideas?

I might do SW Iverness for the shutters and leapfrog for the door, with oyster white for the trim.

I know that in winter, no one's lawn looks good, but your lawn, lack of landscaping and garbage can are certainly not enhancing the curb appeal of an attractive house.

I think the charcoal mossy green could work with your brick and roof, or just a charcoal. You likely know whites can read pretty bright on the exterior. An off white can work nicely. We’ve used BM Swiss Coffee for exterior trim, and it looked pretty white. It has an LRV of 82 and SW Snowbound is 83 so about the same. Looks like Oyster White is darker at 72 but could also read white on the exterior. Oxford White might be too bright at 88.69.

@btydrvn thanks for your thoughts here - wrt the posts -- the dirt level will be higher than it is now --i.e. right now dirt slopes down to the house so there will be at least a little more dirt covering the posts. I hadn't though of covering the exposed cement at the base of the post though .. A raised deck is a possibility but I liked the idea of having a patio that was level and continuous with the rest of the yard.... in which case, I guess I live with having it look a bit unfinished with that cement showing? maybe some flower pots around? Other ideas?

I have a south-facing house, colonial style, with a cedar shingle roof. I am painting the exterior BM Newburyport Blue (classic navy). Not sure if I should go bright white for the trim, or something slightly creamier. I get overwhelmed with white choices. My house is on a lake, if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance.

How about rethinking your plan? Here is a inspirational photo and a color palette as example. I am OK with your shutters because they look like they could be functional and they provide vehicle for accent color. I would paint body BM Tarrytown green or similar color and shutters complimentary orange/rusty red for accent. I suggest you look on Houzz for pictures you like that are inspirational to you and post in a new Ideabook here on Houzz. You only have 2 Ideabooks now so it would help us “see” what you like and envision. Great house in great setting.

Sigrid, I know it looks bad and apologies but the only photo i had handy. We used to have to park in the front yard which destroyed the lawn but have since redone our driveway and have not gotten to redoing the lawn as yet.. Thank you for your suggestions and candor! I will check out the colors suggested!

Chloebud,Thank you so much for your suggestions..I was thinking like you that oxford would be too bright..im leaning towards either snowbound or oyster..I will check out Swiss coffee too.. do you have a brick home similar to mine? Mine is such a disappointing color but Im not ready to do the paint the brick thing as yet...
