Pop Up ads in the middle of Youtube videos

This is something new that's happening on my computer. Halfway through, maybe less, and sometimes a second time, a commercial will appear during a Youtube I'm watching. It's like five (?) seconds long and you can hit "skip" as the countdown comes to one second. Boy is it annoying! I Googled and apparently it's nothing new, but I've never experienced them.

I did have a Firefox update this week, but the ads began before this. Is there a way to get rid of them? I have AdBloc, didn't think to go there and see if there's been a change of some kind. Guess I'd better. Anyone else having a problem?

I've had them for awhile now and they are most annoying...especially since I like to listen to you tube meditations, and there's nothing worse than having a loud ad come on in the middle of a zen moment.

I don't think there's anything you can do about about the ads. A lot of the YouTubers now have sponsors, just like commercials on TV. They might make a few pennies if you purchase something from a sponsor.

Annoying, isn't it?!

Youtube Premium gets rid of them. I have it through my GoogleFi subscription. Just another way to make a buck.

Rhodyman - I'm no computer expert, and I know there are other combinations that work for forum users, but unlike many who have made changes, I use IE7. Windows Defender free program for spyware. Symantec for virus protection. In Fall 2003, I bought Stop the Pop Up by Sureshot, a one time only fee of $20. The tech at my ISP said they had trialed 30, and this one worked flawlessly ( they don't sell it, so nothing to gain by the recommendation) I see no ads, banners, not ever a single solitary pop up on any site I visit including this one. No sounds. I understand your complaint about the advertising, you'd think they'd realize it would make potential customers not want to buy the product rather than make them consider it Here is a link that might be useful: Stop the Pop Up

In my experience just having a computer lacking in specs can slow the experience down, especially with video going. I have 3 computers, 1 is a dinosaur that I don't use anymore, 1 is about +7 years old and this one is fairly newer. I noticed the +7 year old one plays video poorly, usually jerky and pausing to buffer all the time (and sometimes for minutes at a time). I attribute it to that older computer only having 256 kb of ram, where my newest one has 2 gb of ram and video plays fine on it. But yeah, Gardenweb isn't too friendly when it comes to all that, they'll load everything up. I remember when I had to use dial-up on GW, every click took like 5 minutes.

I only watched the first video so far but found it so charming-- something she said in the beginning of the video really resonated with me: they both work at home so having a lovely space was important to them. Yes! I am feeling the same ... I have started and stalled or put a number of projects on hold. I have been nesting these last few weeks and am ready to restart some of them. Not sure I am going to take on painting walls just yet but definitely the fireplace (when I am no longer using it daily) and some furniture. Little touches make such a difference. Thank you for sharing -- it is inspiring and charming.

Ive nevergotten them in the middle of a youtube but I almost always get them at the beginning, which which, as you mentioned, you can skip after a few seconds. i guess thats the price you pay for not paying. Popping up in the middle would be very irritating.

I sometimes get them in the middle of a video, but wait until I can hit "skip" and then proceed. I don't feel inclined to pay for Youtube.

I subscribe (free) to a few YouTubers. One I watching the other day had ads every 5 minutes and they were not skippable. I complained about it in the comments for whatever good that will do. A blogger that I’ve followed for years has monetized her site so much that I can barely read the blog posts because of the distracting pop-up and inserted ads. I rarely ever even click on her email these days. I sometimes wonder if the content creator gets an analysis of how many views/subscribers they’ve lost versus the increased ad revenue.

Yeah,ads on YouTube are not new. Video creators, after meeting certain criteria, can decide how many ads go into their videos. I have YouTube premium, which eliminate ads. I did not get it for that though. I wanted to be able to download videos to listen to later, and I wanted to be able to put my phone to sleep in my pocket and the video still play so I can listen to it when I am walking.

Another trick I used to do, I do not know if it still works. When you click on a video, you can use your mouse to drag the progress bar of the video to the very end of the video, fast forwarding if you will. Then drag the bar back to the beginning and hit play. Or maybe hit replay, i cannot remember. This used to eliminate the ads playing for me before I got YouTube Premium a few years ago. So it may not work anymore. Its worth a shot though.

schoolhouse_gwagain, uBlock Origin apparently works better than what you're using. I have zero ads on YouTube on my computer (uBlock with Firefox). uBlock unfortunately isn't available for a Roku (or smart TV), I get ads in YouTube when watching on it, although they can be skipped with the OK button on the remote after 5 to 45 seconds depending on the available time-out allowance for a given batch of ads.

First time it happened to me, I was watching Kane Pixels most recent terrifying story. It totally ruined it for me for a few moments. Also hate when I'm watching some nice peaceful video and some shooting game ad comes on in the middle of it. It is very jarring
