Be glad you aren't getting the pornographic crap I am getting. My server recently changed something. Now I get legit emails in my spam and garbage in my inbox. I don't need to even SEE that craps subject headings!!! Mine is not gmail. Gmail is fine. Never ever had trouble. I use it when making purchases in case they sell my info....

I'm in the process of switching my email account for just that reason. I've used hotmail for years as my everyday email for stores, web sites etc. But in the last 6 months or so it has become inundated with spam. 95% of items in my inbox are spam and nothing I've done has managed to block them. I have a separate comcast email for bill paying and important accounts but now I'm considering opening a gmail account for the mundane items. But now I'm reconsidering gmail if vgkg is having the same issue.

When I saw the heading of this thread in the summary, for some reason I thought it was a recipe for some type of Hawaiian dish, brah.

Wow - I see none of that in gmail, and I rarely check my gmail spam folder either.

Hotmail is where I see lots of that - but in my junk folder, which I do check & empty daily because some important things get shunted there now and then.

People do fall for those things, or they wouldn't keep at it.

I do know that lots of sites sell our data, and visiting some sites will add you to spam lists, along with security/ email address breaches that happen regularly.

Fwiw I never have anything in my Gmail spam folder. And I never get genuine spam in my Hotmail junk folder either. Any junk emails are always from businesses I've dealt with and it's easy to unsubscribe.

Last week we got an actual spam letter, which is very rare. It seems we've come into an inheritance. So exciting!

I started getting a weird new kind of spam -- on my iphone calendar! I would get an "invitation" for some product or service and it would populate every day for a month or two. I could Decline, but there was no way to Block. I finally realized that it was coming from my Outlook account. I just disconected that calendar on my phone. The invitations still show up when I go to Hotmail, in a little box on the top right that was never there before. But I just trash those. I'm used to email spam (especially on that account) but it really bugged me seeing it on my calendar.

my Gmail account doesn't get much spam. I try to keep everything blocked & unsubscribed.

I never get unwanted messages into my Gmail inbox. The system seems to do a consistent job of directing unwanted things to the Spam folder.

I also never sign up for mailing lists, promotions, or the like. When I get something of that nature, sometimes of a marketing nature from legit sources I otherwise do business with, I unsubscribe immediately.

I almost never get spam, the filter catches a lot! But for a couple of weeks I was getting several a day. DH did his thing and it still came, so he did something else, and I blocked, and it stopped. Most of it was made,to look like from actual businesses I have been to in person, but never online, and even the ”why, you naughty person, we saw what you were doing on the xxx site”. Sure. Dang, they caught me. Lookong at floorplans.

FWIW, something I noticed more recently is gmail provides an unsubscribe option without even opening the message.

I learned about spam.org last month, started reporting the repeated spam there, and they stopped within a week.

With us, phone scams have increased noticeably over the past month.
