Examples of large rooms painted non-neutrals?
Comments (10)I don't have many full room pics as they're tough to get (ok for me cuz I suck as a photographer perhaps?) Anyhoo, I have one deep room that's about 20x20 and one that's 20x25 in a non neutral. This is the 20x25 dining room. The walls are Jasper with an aubergene accent and a greenish gold on the ceiling. Same room in tone on tone whites with a hidious 40 year old red carpet: And the deep toned room: I'm balancing the blue room out with gold drapes that match the ceiling color. (that is if I quit avoiding them like I am now) This pic shows the color at it's truest on the computer...I took the color from the ocean in the picture of the boat and had it matched since the view from the room is also of the ocean: And again in insipid white: I wish the parlor across the hall was done to show you. It's 20x30 and will be done in a rich persimmon. I'm having fun with the bold colors of the victorian era myself :) I think they suit furnishings and art so much better than soft tones, and really make a huge room look rich and cozy. I have a friend who has a huge great room in a modern house that she did in a really bold brick red. When it first started going up it was frightening LOL but when it was finished, and all of her gorgeous leather and upholstry was added....yummy :) is the best description....See MoreLiving room sofas ( quick advice needed)
Comments (26)"my mom says it meets their needs and she loves it" That's the only important thing! And actually it's very right from a design perspective :-) She has a colour palette of red and ivory, with little accents of green. Her patterns are well balanced and the colours are well balanced throughout the room. It looks like she has a balanced palette, 50-50 red and ivory, with little hits of the green for interest. If you want to emulate that look, choose beige and forest green (since you've already committed to forest green and the carpet commits you to beige). I'm sorry I was trying to push you into a layout that is not culturally correct for you! From your ideabook I thought you were going for a more modern, MCM American vibe :) If you are interested, I will sketch out that idea for you but I won't try to push you on it. Yes, painter's masking tape will be just fine for taping things on the floor. I do think you'll be trying to squeeze just a bit too much in. And if you use two rugs, have them running parallel to each other. :-)...See MoreAny ideas for a living room update?
Comments (24)The color is lighter but it's still too big and puffy. My 2 cents, and story from childhood: Both my grandmas lived within 3 miles of us and regularly hosted large family gatherings (30-50 of us). Neither had giant sectionals where all could have a puffy seat, just a regular sofa and a couple of upholstered chairs. We sat where we could, used lots of folding chairs and tables for meals and to play cards. Kids were in and out of the house playing. Looking back, the lack of seating was never a problem because being together was key. I will add, I've been married almost 50 years, have raised two sons, decorated always around their needs and likes. Now, my home is filled with my style and lots of memories. My hubby, bless him, has learned that as long as it is comfy and fits him, the decor is all my choice! Good luck with your decor reform!...See MoreDesign my living room around this burgundy sofa
Comments (70)Love love love all these ideas! Thanks everdebz and 2pups4me!! My head is spinning but in a great way. I loved the Montana fabric but I think ur right still too red and when I went by there today after closing the window treatments that are up and YES I am keeping them, for now anyways and maybe for good, are you guessed it, red and cream. So I guess I really need to go with the other neutral colors... I’m loving golds, creams, sage greens.... I will be there tomorrow waiting on a fedex delivery of bed so I will take some pics and post later this week.... no internet yet. Wooo so much going on trying to move a little at a time, work an hour away and get decorated!! Thank you all for all the ideas, can’t wait to go forward and get this done! Stick with me, I’ve got a dining room, bedroom after this!...See MoreValinta
