Milo, I sent "just a pb" an idea on his "pretty pictures" thread, I love the geometric look. Try very large, 24" white travertine pavers with a cantilevered edge, larger if you have the budget. Cool enough to walk on (we're in Vegas), maybe do the edge as an ogee or waterfall look as well, for the pool coping. Heck, as long as I am spending your money, add some glass with a waterfall effect into the pool. I've seen one from the second story all the way to the waterline that spilled into the pool.The water trickles across the glass. If anyone can do it, looks like "just" can. We did think about extending it out till the pool but first its costing us a lot compared to Kool deck and secondly the wood tile gets too hot and slippy near the pool. would just doing the covered patio area a brown wood tile and the rest of the pool decking an off white kool deck look bad?

I just got a bid to replace 125 linear feet of coping, replace the decorative tile beneath coping, and exterior refacing of an existing fountain for 16,000. Plus they are booking 10 months out to next spring. We live in an expensive part of St Louis, and it is a well regarded firm, but I do feel like my bid is quite high so we are pursuing competitive bids. As a rookie pool owner, 1,800-2,800 for 110 ft coping replacement sounds low but I certainly wouldn't mind if that were my quote!

Also what grade of cement should I be making sure they use and how thick should it be? Does 35psi and 4" thick with a brushed finished be the right thing to require? I too live in Florida and although all our kids combined do not live with us, we have grandchildren that will visit and have friends w/kids. We are also dancers and the patio will be used for dancing too, so we were looking for a non-slip material and one that stays cool in the heat. This is why we were looking at travertine. Can we find travertine that is under $10 a sq ft that can look modern? Preferably $7 a sq ft? If so, how would it be laid? I believe the total sq ft for around the pool and the patio is under 600 sq ft. The entire space is approx 40x 30. Do you know how much stamped concrete will cost per sq ft?
