Cost of pool coping replacement or overlay?

I have approximately 110 linear feet of coping that is 1 foot wide. It is that old brick tile that I want to give a fresher look.

What is the general cost to

A. Remove the existing coping and replace with new coping (travertine or some stone)

B. Use overlay coat on top of coping

Is overlay something that lasts or looks nice on a premium home? The quote's I'm getting are $2800 for A (labor only, not material) and $1800 for B (labor and material).

Would you recommend to spray coat the entire patio around the pool as well... does it come out looking cheap?

Would appreciate pictures of some modern pool coping set ups and the best material to use.

If you're selling your home within two months, get the spray-on, because that's just about how long it's going to last. Either of your replacement bids seem incredibly low to me.

Padding the floor would cause the liner to move from people jumping and twisting. Laying flat on the pool floor is best since it stays put. What is in place for coping now? If the liner is more than a year old, if you changed the coping, the liner would go too. Liners don't like being dry after being exposed to water. The plasticizers loose elasticity. The liner will want to return to it's original size and not be able to be restretched properly, resulting in reduced life, wrinkles, stretch marks, etc,,,. The older the liner, the greater the chance of a tear too. WRT to the material the coping and track are made of, metal or plastic work. Typically its aluminum and plastic. Scott

I would expect neither option to work actually. Once the old coping is removed, its toast and needs to be replaced with new coping. You can't layer over existing coping either, that I have ever heard of. It flakes off in chunks. Scott

lookingforapool, After a period of time you may see some small cracks. I've never had to provide warranty for this product. But, I would warrant for 1 year. It will last for many years. Initial cost to install will vary between $4-7 per foot. For residential applications I usually dust the top of the mastic with sand to add a little texture.

I have an 18'x36' in-ground Kufko pool that was installed in the late 70's. The coping is plastic and embedded into the concrete deck around the pool. The coping is now cracking, warped and pretty brittle. The pool was re-tracked by the previous owners when the current liner was installed about 15 years ago. Now I am looking at replacing the liner but would also like to replace the ugly plastic coping/edging material too. I received one estimate for $17k, for tearing up the concrete and replacing everything. That is outside of my budget. I was considering covering it with a TREX material and lagging that into the adjacent concrete deck just to cover that edge. Has anyone done that or found another lower cost retrofit for this issue?

I just got a bid to replace 125 linear feet of coping, replace the decorative tile beneath coping, and exterior refacing of an existing fountain for 16,000. Plus they are booking 10 months out to next spring. We live in an expensive part of St Louis, and it is a well regarded firm, but I do feel like my bid is quite high so we are pursuing competitive bids. As a rookie pool owner, 1,800-2,800 for 110 ft coping replacement sounds low but I certainly wouldn't mind if that were my quote!

this is the last pool i resurfaced our materials stay cooler then any other i have found texture is adjustable just have to make sure the person who does it is good at what he does
