Re-upholstering Entryway Bench
Comments (0)I've been looking for a nice entryway bench with blue upholstery. I can't find something to suit me, but I did find a well-priced bench with a different colored upholstery. How difficult will it be to put a new cover on it (I mean I'd go to the fabric store and choose some fabric)? I've never had any formal training in sewing, so I'm looking for an overview of what will be necessary....See MoreJust finished landscape re-do: Is this entry step odd?
Comments (29)I think the only code issue that applies here is the riser height which yes, RG, is 7 3/4" so even if the other riser is off, it still complies with code because these are not considered stairs which my understanding is any set of steps that are at least 3 in succession are considered stairs and must comply with applicable codes (like a hand rail and riser height conformity). But regardless of code, the riser heights are just too far off for any reputable contractor to think they did a decent job. Codes for steps and stairs are for safety concerns, and everybody knows riser heights with different heights in succession cause the brain to get confused. Especially for the elderly. I suggest you put aesthetics aside and focus on safety, workmanship and the integrity of your contractor to do the right thing....See MoreDesign thoughts on re-vamping unique 70's ranch exterior
Comments (5)No to a carriage style garage door, and consider replacing the front door. Neither match the style of the house. Use similar brick and build out columns on each side of entryway to support soffit and roof once the horizontal beam across top is removed. Columns will be stained to match front door and garage door. You want to stain the brick columns? Somehow put a film or get new etched windows to hide the view into the garage from the tall slim windows on the front left of the house. The bottom half of the windows could be solid -- no glass, top an obscure glass. Put a horizontal board on the bottom and top of the siding to look more finished (most wood siding houses have them...ours didn't for some reason. Either trim color or same color as siding. Board on top OK, leave off bottom. Paint house trim and gutters a darker color....See Morere-tile entry around stair newel
Comments (5)if it's sitting on top of the tile, then you can just slide a new one underneath, after breaking out these old ones. not a big deal if the new stuff if the same thickness....See MoreChrissy Murphy
