Antique Sewing Machine Base as Coffee Table
Comments (4)That is also a neat idea - and I thought of that - if I only had time to visit salvage places and such. It is really strange, because mine is so low. I sort of measured it against my knee and it is about the same height as my current coffee table - yet yours is so tall --- wonder how the machine fit on top of it - mine has a whole cabinet on top with drawers (2) on each side ---- The other thing I am trying to do is avoid the Made in China tables - I just bought furniture and it is USA made. Some of the components may be made in China - I don't know -but it is made in Indiana. I have no large pieces made other than the good ol' US of A - and I would like to keep it that way. I have been looking at tables in the $600 - $800 range and all are made in China. I think this is one of the 'be true to yourself' in decorating things. It might not matter to someone else, but I find it important. Of course, when I told DH I was once again saving him money, he was all for it!!...See MoreHelp with family room decor- lots of pics!
Comments (19)Okay- couch is still against the windows. Rug is turned sideways... looks much better!! rings from the curtains are moved outside the brackets. (and all curtain rods, blinds, and window sills are dusted, as is the top of the EC!!! Yipeee! :) lol. I am liking this more and more. Regarding moving the couch opposite the fireplace- that seems to be the most popular idea. The reason I put it where it is in the above photo (best seen in the 3rd photo where I showed different arrangements) is because then the rug is centered in the room (with the windows and entertainment center.) If I move it closer to the fireplace, then the couch is more in front of the EC, cutting it off. Does that make sense? We're not huge TV people.. my daughter doesn't even watch one second of TV (that will change... but she has a play room upstairs for that, in the future.) Do I have to have one focal point? When we have friends over, the TV is NOT on- focal point- fireplace. When it's just my H and myself, focal point- TV/Entertainment center. I'm not sure why I feel the need for a coffee table... I looked at storage ottomans yesterday at Bassett. I like that idea but yikes! They were around $600... I was hoping to spend less. If I went that route- what color would you suggest? Finallly- luv2look- Our entertainment center is by Hooker, called Brookhaven. I bought it online from a place called Basista. I had a great experience with them and saved almost half compared to buying locally. I also got my Bradington and Young chairs through them. I will link the EC below. HTH! Thank you all. I'll try to get an updated pic up for more CC :)...See MoreLooking for suggestions
Comments (6)I think I would have to have the sofa facing the fireplace...is that possible? (I know it wasn't a question, but changing the furniture possible changes what you need to buy...so I though I would check). I know a lot depends on where you sit to watch tv. I might to something like this on the ottoman... Normally I wouldn't recommend a print on a round ottoman, (if you're diy-ing it), but it's gathered, so it wouldn't be difficult. I would also not do the box pleats...just have it be smooth on the bottom half. OR, how about bringing in some orange? It goes great with blue... Then, of course, the ottoman fabric would completely change......See Morewhat coffee table and rug to buy?
Comments (1)Get a faux tree (in a good container and put where the pillows are in corner. The rug you have now is too small. Fill in the empty wall space between the t v and top of console to hide the cords....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
